Drum Heads

I've been considering trying out some new heads for my toms and snare. I've been using Remo Coated Emporers since the earth cooled and am wondering if maybe I'm missing out on anything. I've tried Aquarians but thought they were a little too dead sounding.
Any suggestions?
btw, I dont just play Metal so i'm looking for versatility as well as the obvious playability, durability, etc.

Yea i didnt like aquarians for my snare never tried for toms. Depending on how hard you hit i would try using a single ply remo pinstripe for the snare. Its louder then 2 play and its got a great crisp sound. Im using emporers on my toms as well so good luck with that.
I did try the evens heads for awhile you might want to try that. They have a newer head out that is sopposed to have a bulit in dampener. They are called ec2 or sumthing similair they were pretty good and warm sounding. But i did like the remos better.

i use an EMAD on my bass drum and i'm all set with using anything else ever, but in terms of toms and snarei dont know where to begin. I wanna try using 2 ply since I hit pretty hard.

really? those hi energy snare heads you use are awesome... and i just switched to aquarians all around except for the emad. just beat the bag out of em and the wont sound dead

also aquarians are great because the ridge on the head is thicker

Yea the ec2 is for toms. I have the emad as well and i like it. Check out the tom heads you might be a fan.

maybe try thinner bottom heads to get more ring rather than replace the top... i also got one of those double fat snares for my snare

Yea i use Single ply remo for the bottom heads.

i was using the ec2s till a month ago. they are less consistent sounding to me. and harder to tune.

well, those are good for Metal but they're not a very versatile head for anything else

i always liked the evans hydralic heads for the toms with a single ply bottom and a (evans) reverse dot power center on the snare and single ply bottom, my kick was a 18er so thats up for debate I would always use a evans hydralic with no front head and a blanket muffle it sounded really 60's prog (Bruford KC era) however our drummer swears by the aquarians with the rings for the tomsIm not sure what he uses on the snare but it is not coated but we had to duct tape the shit out of his bottom head during the recording but besides that he seems to get a real good tone

evans ec2 heads are excellent. They have a semi-coated feel and are slightly dampening, but not so much so that it eats into your tone.
for snare, I will never use anything other then aquiarian studio X texture coated heads.
The coating on the studiox will never ever ever come off like remo or evans coated drums.
The aquarian head in question is the only one i like, and haven't ever liked any other aq head.
I don't really like hydrolic heads because they eat too much of my shell's tone, and nothing remo makes really does it for me.
BTW I use those heads on a birch/maple fusion kit with a 12" pork pie snare. they might not be the right thing for a standard size kit with a beastly snare.

they are a nice comprimise between coated G2s and pinstripes.
the transluscence of them looks cool also and the coating is durable.

i was using the ec2s for years and they degrade in sound quality really fast imho.

Very tight sounding, not too much sustain. Also by far the most durable head I've ever played. I used to rip through heads like it was my job but I've only gone through two of these in the last year.
And when played in combination with

it will rupture any hymen within 100 yards
