Getting really sick of shitty promoters[views:6486][posts:33]________________________________ [Apr 9,2008 10:17am - xmikex ""] This is hardly old news to anyone here, but I'm really really goddamn sick of a few trends going on now with promoters. I'm not talking about real show promoters, I'm talking about the guys who come out of nowhere, and all of a sudden have 100 shows booked with bands no one has ever heard of. They're all $15 each, and the locals never get paid. My band is going out on the road next weekend. We had a show booked in Indiana that I was really psyched for. Kids were writing us every day telling us how excited they were about it. From what a lot of people were telling us this show was going to draw a ton of kids. The promoter sent us an email on Myspace, and I could tell just from looking at his profile, and the way he was talking to us that he was one of those promoters. Promoters like that always talk to you with a stick up their ass about getting there 100 years early to load in. We're a touring band coming from another part of the country, and he knows that. We're not a bunch of 14 year olds playing Green Day covers from a garage down the street. The world isn't gonna end if we can't make it there by 4:00 to load in for a 7:00 show or whatever. Kids started telling us what a sketchy dude he was, and how he rips bands off. I don't care so much about money as I do about just playing a good show so I didn't care. This show has been booked for months, and he waited until yesterday to tell the guys who set this show up for us (I won't mention the band name in case they don't want their name attached to this) that the show is going to be ages 15 - 20 only. Has anyone ever even heard of that??! I've never once in my life heard of a max age limit on a show. |

_________________________________ [Apr 9,2008 2:17pm - cav nli ""] i think the moral of the story is that if you have started a booking company, a promotion company, a photography company, or even a band since myspace has become such a popular means of advertisement (lets say 2 years give or take, and its crappy useless advertisement at that), you should quit what your doing and go get a job. especially if you are under the age of 21. just because myspace exists and just because the whole world is telling you that you are free to do whatever you want doesnt mean that you can go ahead trying to act professional doing something that you have absolutely no experience or talent in. |
