there was some complaints that the acting was crappy. and for the most part it is. but i'm a die hard horror fan and i dont expect oscar worthy performances. theres zombies, blood, gore, people dying. one thing i'd be against is some of the gore is digital. but its done well, so it fits. i like the movie. but i also have a romero zombie tattoo sleeve. if you trust my judgement, then get it. if not, at least rent it.

This movie was absolute trash. I'm usually pretty critical of horror movies, and of most movies in general, but this was unwatchable. The acting isn't even what's bad about it. The acting just didn't match the dialogue or the scenes, or the film at all. The dialog written is absolute shit. Romero either wrote the script in a day, or paid a high school kid to write it for him.
The monologues are so unbelievably didactic you'll want to hang yourself. That and the nonstop pop culture references to youtube and myspace just make your eyes glaze over like when your uncle tries to tell you about "This great new thing called The Google." Romero makes absolutely no attempt to creatively get his message across. I'm pretty sure what happened was that he got so distracted by people telling him he's George Romero that he forgot how to write a screenplay entirely.
Let's get back to the acting. This is one of those movies where every single character has a dramatic but out of place Rocky IV one liner. You know the scene where Adrian confronts Rocky about the Drago fight, and tells Rocky he has to change, and Rocky pulls off this soap opera turnaround (from the shadows of his dark house, metaphorically gazing up from the bottom of the staircase) shouts "Well maybe I don't wanna change!" That was how every single scene in Diary of the Dead ends. Some asshole pulls off some corny predictable line that no one would ever say in real life and you sit there and sarcastically say "Ooooooooh.... she went to acting school."
This movie sucks. Sucks. Frame 00:00:00:00:01 to the very end. Terrible.

I have to agree this was pretty bad. I know Romero's zombie movies are always full of political and social commentary, but it's annoyingly obvious and constantly in your face in this one. Pretty much every scene is preaching about guns, violence, racial/cultural tension or the media. If you're in for the zombies and gore, just pop in one of the classics, there's nothing special or creative for the gore hounds here either.

haha sweet. actually so far its a half sleeve, hope thats still good and marriage worthy though haha. im getting more added to it on july 22nd. i cant wait. at some point i will get a land of the dead tat, i dont think i'll get a diary of the dead one. nothing really stands out enough to get a tattoo of. for the upper part of the sleeve im gonna get a tattoo from zombie, return of the living dead 1 and 2. and a shaun of the dead tattoo. i already have an evil dead 2 tat up there, but i gotta get it re-done.

and I do think this was a more coherent commentary on the media than "Natural Born Killers"
I just thought it sucked as a horror / zombie movie. I like the 'siege' aspect of the others in his series

I love the horror genre, have since i was a kid.
This might be the most overhyped horror movie in recent memory.
I remember hearing about it and the concept and shit and i was so excited. Saw it the week it came out and almost walked out.
I expect bad acting in horror, and most of the time i can see past that, however, every single character was so much more cliche then anything i had ever seen.
Also, the dialogue was horrible forced, not one piece of conversation seemed natural whatsoever.
The narration was hysterically bad..."it like a car crash on the side of the road, no one knows why they stop they just do"
shit like that makes me fucking vomit! how many times in how many other equally bad horror movies has that analogy(haha anal) been used.
Just my two cents...wouldve asked for a refund if i could.

I went to see it the weekend it came out. I'm an insanely huge Romero fan. But diary of the dead was a pile of shit. To be honest everything Romero's done after 1990 hasn't been that great. I'll just watch Martin, The Crazies, the dead trilogy, Creepshow and Two Evil Eyes.

honestly i agree. two evil eyes was his last actually good movie, watchable, non-cheesy film. i have a soft spot for the old man, cuz dawn of the dead got me into horror when i was really young. like around the age of 3 or 4. i've lived my life by horror ever since. then later in life metal. i'll still watch bruiser, land of the dead, and diary of the dead over and over because i have an undying loyalty for romero. i'll turn a blind eye to his failures. and put my money into whatever he puts out. its like if youre best friend is in a really shitty nu-metal band. and you know it. but you buy the shirts, the cds, go to the shows. i'm just loyal. if any other director fails, they can go fuck themselves though.
