Assistant Fire Chief Steve Achilles said the building was evacuated as a safety precaution. No one was hurt when the balcony suddenly sank four or five inches, according to police Lt. Dante Puopolo. The Music Hall dates back to 1878 and has been undergoing extensive renovations. The decision to evacuate was made jointly by Music Hall staff and the Fire Department. "The show had to be shortened to air on the side of safety. The fire inspectors wanted to get in and look at it," Margaret Talcott, communications director for The Music Hall said. "We'll see, I think it was the right decision." Tonight's show has been canceled as a result. A decision has not yet been made on whether tickets for the sold out crowd of about 900 will be refunded.
