I'm thinking about making a short EP or something of 8bit Black Metal. I guess you could say it would sound like Nintendo Black Metal. (there will be blasts / tremming, etc).
Now I know this is somewhat of a stupid idea, but I'm thinking about doing it regardless.
Not quite sure on what to do about vocals though.

Suggestions? Requests?

I think its an amazing idea. Try to use only what the nes had for a sound engine - 2 square waves (guitar lines) a triangle wave (bass) and white noise of varying durations(drums). I'd say forget vocals and write your own new music instead of just covering games. That being said, if you were to add vocals, use a bit crusher to reduce them to 8 bits instead of the 24 or 16 bits you recorded them in.

Related idea, I'm looking to do a band realization of the somewhat obscure game "Legacy of the Wizard". Anyone interested let me know. A really good ear or the ability to read sheet music helps.

oh and remember, the nes does not feature polyphony, so no chords, only super mega fast arpeggios

yea.. here's an example of what it would sound like (sample quality, etc.) although I guess I can make it sound more like NES then a chip tune.

haha, thanks.
I'm thinking of making the theme/titles of the album more along the lines of sci-fi/anti-cosmos to stay with the 8bit "feel."
should be kind of interesting.. those who oppose then fuck off. it's a combination of two things I love most: old video games and blackmetal. not really the most innovative idea but it should be interesting nonetheless.

I think you would like XEXYZ "Primeval Mountain"

total 8-bit videogame black metal.

BUMP -
This project is now underway. song 1 is nearing completion. I have to figure some stuff out though. when I have the sine/triangle waves tremolo (to simulate trem picking) it sounds somewhat empty.
4 channels is somewhat limited for this but i'll figure it out and weave the melodies around.
it's hard because if i'm to have double bass drumming, it takes up 1 channel. hmm...

nah just don't have dbl bass hits on snare hits. Its all about having noise happen but disappear before the next noise blast. So say you've got dbl bass cruising, but need snare, tom, and occasional cymbal sounds. Just have them happen not simultaneously, or if they must, drop the bass drum hit from that moment.

this is still standing and I should have something done in a short time. should be awesome or retarded depending on how you look at it.

the problem I'm running into at the moment is having an 8bit blast. i've tried all different drum "samples" and some of them create fuzz or over power the music itself. it may have to be a mid-paced project unless I can figure it out.
