Ever build your own guitar?[views:2867][posts:23]_____________________________________ [Jun 2,2008 9:49pm - Joshtruction ""] I figure we have quite few gear heads in here maybe someone else has built a guitar here other than me. I baught a busted 80's LP classic a few years back and fixed it up. It fell out of a truck after a gig and part of the fretboard lifted, and the entinre neck snapped off and the body was rather fucked. I trimmed the neck down, grooved in a new peice of wood, fixed the fretboard and turned it into a bolt on neck. I baught a mahogany blank, and a maple blank. I ended up making a bolt on les paul body with a maple arch top. I made a pearl binding around the whole body. It came out like complete and total shit but plays and sounds good. You can clearly see where I joined the 2 body woods together on the side but I am still proud of it. Since I am getting real antsy to get back to my bass playing (not sure why when bass players rarely ever get any respect) I have been looking into building a bass. For the work and time I spent on the les paul, and the quality of the product, I kind of want no part in making my own neck or body. I got no problem moding a neck and body to my liking, but I don't want to get into body making again. So basically I am thinking about spending some cash on a warmoth gecko neck and body. While thinking about it (to replace my current bass) I figured I'd talk to some of the guys here and see what you have done, or if you have any idea's. |

Pourous/non-pourous dont mix or some shit. nah, practically half of high end production and signature guitars are ebony necks on maple boards. aliphetic resin doesn't care which wood is which. the only things that you really have problems with are very oily woods like cocobolo or purpleheart. I think every maple necked ESP has an ebony board. |

They're really bright and if paired with the right pickups they sound phenomenal, my red RG3120 was mahogany and it ruled. I'll have to let you play my ESP sometime to check out how the maple fretboard feels. I'm torn between maple (my les paul also has the maple fretboard) or ebony. My dad built a superstrat back in the 80's and it's awesome. His floyd rose trem route was handcarved and looks like absolute garbage, but man that thing can play. I'd love to build my own guitar someday when I'm more financially stable. |

I fully agree. I meant like a mahogany guitar will have the same properties as a mahogany bass. Or at least give you a rough estimate. I didn't mean all woos sound the same. |
