I hear the Keeley Compressor is choice. Pretty sure he has some kind of discount package where you save like $50 if you get one of his Tube Screamers with it. Those things are fucking glorious.

I would recommend NO compression for metal.

Compressed guitar always reminds me of ZZ Top.

not for metal, but i want to use it for clean guitar and most likely for a Gilmour style lead sound, to clean it up before the echo. harmony-central is a good place, but can sometimes be misleading and biased. ive been looking around and the mxr seems good for not a bad price. theres no mxr dealers on the Cape anyone know of any in the Boston area that carries MXR?

Guitar center carries mxr.

My choices are for the keely and the vox snake charmer. Haven't screwed around with too many but those are two that I've found were very useable.
