Don't get me wrong, I liked the life aquatic, but it was so scattered all over the place that it didn't hold my interest like his previous films did. I think that's part of the reason why he did Darjeeling. He was able to use the train as a way to keep the story tethered to it. The symbolism with the baggage in Darjeeling was a little obvious though. About half way through the movie I said to myself "This film won't end until there's a slow motion scene where they purposely ditch the baggage." Fast forward an hour and there it is. His symbolism was a lot more subtle in the first two films. |
