this thing looks like an SG kind of... but the body is really different.

here are pics. this guitar was bought in 1970 and the serial of it is a 1970 serial, i looked it up and the serials for gibson from 61-76 were fucked up. terrible system. nothing model specific.

so anyways... here are a couple pics.

i have never seen this body style before.

thanks for any insight.

i think that very well could be a 'sg recording' model. either that or a cheaper introductory sg model.

Could be a tail-end Melody Maker, though the headstock is wrong for that.

I am jealous either way.

alright, thanks everyone. based on that site, it appears to be an SG II. serial proves it was made in 70, 71, or 72... and apparently SG II's were made between 72-79. thanks.

the second pic threw me off as the tapered left side wasnt so visible because of poor picture quality. not that i looked it more, its definitely an SG.

i just played it today and it definitely is a beginner model but is still leagues ahead of higher end epiphones. the thing is mint too. classic guitars > newer ones (for the most part).

gibsons 'beginner' models of the time were hardly guitars for novices, its still quality as all hell, but just has been stripped of all lavish appointments to make it more affordable.

and 9 times out of 10 old gibson is better than new.
