I recently started using Ubuntu again and I'm having a problem. I have a slave harddisk with all my documents on it and I cannot access them. Whenever I try to open the drive I get an error. Can anyone help a nigga out?

Well it worked, and I appreciate the help, but now it's telling me I'm not privileged to access it. I never had any restrictions on it or anything at all while using Windows, so I'm not sure why it would be saying that. Do you happen to have a solution for this as well?

Its better you figure it out so that you can fix it later... make a ubuntu forum account.

the file that has the mounting settings is /etc/fstab so in a terminal type:
sudo gedit /etc/fstab

that means "sudo" which is as admin or root user
open gedit which is a a text editor
with the following file /etc/ftsab

One more question for you...I understand that mp3 files are not supported by Ubuntu, but I have heard there are ways to make it so they are supported. Would you know how to go about this?

Fuck Ubuntu, use Debian. It's not much "harder" and you'll get more buttlove from geeks.

they are supported now... but in any case open up software sources(admin menu) and check
all the boxes in the ubuntu software tab.
then open synaptic(should me next to sources in the menu) and seach for restricted and install ubuntu restricted extras
this installs proprietary software like java and flash and other stuff... then seach for gstreamer and install the "good" "bad" and "ugly" and other gstreamer stuff it suggests. also install "libflashsupport"

I also recommend songbird www.getsongbird.com
thats what gstreamer is for...
although right now there are a few bugs with sound sources but its still awesome.
you might have some problems with sound

one more thing i like to install is "gnome-compiz-manager"
it shows up in the preferences menu as Advanced Desktop Effect Settings
do this if you have nvidia i wouldnt bother if you have ATI

this is my desktop atm
