_____________________________________________ [Aug 21,2008 11:22pm - theaccurseddrummer ""] No. Never again. I hate this band so much, it's tainted the love I had for the first four albums. I can barely listen to Master of Puppets without thinking "oh fuck, this is the same band that put out Saint Anger, fuck this" instead of "YES, Fuckin' Metallica!!! Fuckin' hammer of justice crushes you, fuckin' Die! Die! Die! Die!" What the fuck? What they need is another 4 tour bus rides through Sweden to straighten their shit out. |

____________________________________ [Aug 22,2008 12:36am - narkybark ""] No no, that was the last album, we're talking about the new single. |
____________________________________________ [Aug 22,2008 1:31am - ConquerTheBaphomet ""] Lars is trying way too hard to be a good drummer on this song. The snare work is really annoying. James sounds better than he did on St. Anger; pitch manipulation or not. The bass is nice and rich and in the front of the mix. I like that. The riffage is almost there. The first few minutes are nothing special in the guitar work but after the 4 minute mark, things start to pick up and I like that. Progression has never been Metallica's strong point so making this an 8 minute song was pointless. After the 5 minute mark, they seemed to try to copy "One" and it didn't mesh right. Overall, this is obviously better than that heap, St. Anger. I'm interested to hear the rest of it. |
____________________________________________ [Aug 22,2008 2:33am - zenerik NLI OMFGZ ""] Is this song for real. The whole end sounds like they just recorded random riffs over a skank beat. No cohesion. Not that I expected to like it. Never been a fan. I just don't get it. Are they trying to be prog except without the writing ability to connect different sections? |

It sounds like some kid recorded the drums in his basement and recorded the snare way too hot. It sticks out and sounds so misplaced that I can't even listen to the "song." ever heard and justice for all? i don't understand why they think killing all the reverb is how to get back to the "old shit". lars needs lots of verb on the snare and toms to mask how lame he actually is. the fast shit starting at 5:15ish is dumb. it sounds like a non-8bit nintendo theme song. and kirk hammet sounds like dog balls when he solos without a wah. oh metallica... i have so much hope every time new music comes out. you keep kicking me in the dick though. |

People keep deluding themselves and fall for the "bringing back the old shit" trap, without fail. It's like a mental condition, or a bizarre (and quite retarded) phenomenon. So many great metal bands out there cant even sell a fraction of the albums Metallica does, all while Metallica continues to produce the shittiest material. Something is wrong with that. |

_____________________________________________ [Aug 22,2008 5:26pm - MarkFuckingRichards ""] I was expecting to hate this no matter what, but I was at least hoping that they'd do something with some sort of musical integrity to it. For a band that's been around for so long and written some awesome shit in the past (mainly And Justice For All, in my opinion), this is the Lord of the Rings fail (the most epic of fails). I think I was busting out similar tapping solos when I was 15 years old. What the fuck. Even though I haven't enjoyed Metallica in years, I could never deny that Kirk Hammett was a great lead player, but now it's pretty easy to say that he's lost it. I can hear direct references structurally to some of their older material (Fade To Black and One, to name just a couple), but with nothing new. It is obvious that they either can't write differently or purposely copied their own music. To make this song as long as it is should be considered capital punishment. Boo-urns. |

_________________________________________ [Aug 28,2008 12:34am - DestroyYouAlot ""] Ok, here goes. Ow. By 1 minute in we have: Tinny "not exactly Fade to Black or One but we're trying" arpeggios (except too high), half-assed attempt at a harmonized solo (KIRK YOU ARE BANNED FROM THE FIRST THREE STRINGS) with that shitty fuzzbox sound, trashcan snare, and - wait for it - GENERIC METALLICA BALLAD TURNAROUND #6. Listening... (Is my speaker clipping, or does the snare sound like that for everybody else, too?) Hetfield, you can't sing that well, but that doesn't excuse the "yeah-yeahahahasss" thing in this song. Just mix it low like you used to; you don't have to be the wolfman right now. Ooh, the chorus. Yup, there's the song title. KIRK STOP IT, I KNOW THAT LEAD WORKED IN "THE UNFORGIVEN" BUT YOU HAVE TO MOVE ON. Alright, back to shitty lead #1. Then a verse. Chorus. Yup. Now we're doing something different. Annnnnd... Oh, good, Southern rock again - you guys totally haven't run that little twist into the ground. "Love is a 4-letter word?" I mean, I'm actively trying NOT to listen to lyrics, and that one jumped out and kicked me in the nuts. Oh, it's fast now. Wait, what? Somehow "one.mp3" got cued up on Winamp and now it sounds like shit - WAIT A MINUTE. Thin Lizzy lead, that wasn't so terrible I guess. Meedlies and squeedlies, only I'm guessing they let Trujillo play those on a left-handed guitar while drunk, 'cause I distinctly remember both those other guys knowing their way around a guitar pretty well. Hmm... *MEL BAY'S "HOW TO PLAY METAL LEADS THE EASY WAY" SECTION GOES HERE* Ok, those three chords again, I remember those. *chunk chunk chunk chunk chunk chunk hey remember how And Justice was a good album?* Meedly meedly WE'RE DONE.
