Firstly, i can totally understand the not eating meat thing, (although i eat it all the time) and i can 100% understand that the conditionions that cows are kept in to get milk are terrible, and i would totally understand if Peta was just pushing for that to stop. But cows need to be milked or they get very uncomfortable. I have been assured by coworkers who grew up on farms (after i read this i went around the office) that the cows need to be milked, and they acctually appreciate it and show affection to the milker a lot of the time. I also understand that idealistically they would only be milked by little baby cows, but if the cows are kept in great conditions, whats the harm in milking them? (besides the fact that their milk is not good for most people) Now people milk, i don't think it's a bad idea in it of itself, i just think trying to force ben and jerrys to switch totally to human milk is crazy. Think of the amount of women who would have to line up everyday to produce enough milk. It would be so costly, and there would be such a smaller amound available, that B&Js would have to charge a mint for ice cream, and it wouldn't sell anywhere near as well as with cow milk. Basically, if B&Js did switch, they would probably go out of business. Peta is asking them to do that. Thats why i think its crazy, not because there would be anything wrong with human milk icecream, i would definitely eat it. I love boobies. I just think if Peta is so serious they should focus on things that could actually happen, like asking B&Js to use artificial milk so no cows had to be kept in captivity for them, or asking them to only use milk from farms where conditions where much better for the cows. But i think we all know how much money B&Js would lose from this change. So all in all, the idea of the milk isnt that nuts, but the idea of Peta trying to get B&Js to use only human milk is a little bit nuts. But then again so is firebombing places where they do animal testing. Killing people & animals because people are being mean to animals.
