Why are we afraid to ask why school shootings happen?

While some school shooters are delusional, and usually seek the attention, others like Jeff Weisse, Pekka-Eric Auvinen and now Matti Saari are of the ideological type, attempting to communicate through mass death what could not be said in words, because words can be ignored if inconvenient to the listener.

In essence, our society has decayed so far that we have created an alternate reality in which we operate as if it were reality, composed of our institutions and public opinions. Reality itself remains far away, doubly so because it is often complex and does not make a good sound bite, election slogan, advertising jingle or hip new saying to impress our friends.

Scientists Would Analayze School Shootings, Not Judge Them; Why Don't We? by Brett Stevens

It's too hard for us to say "school is conformity camp, and since most people are morons, nothing ever gets fixed."

Good question. I think the article which was quoted tells the story well -- in a syllogism:

1. Society is headed toward third world status because it has no epic goals, therefore it is just feed yourself and buy shit, an empty life that rewards empty people. They breed more drones.
2. Most people are too apathetic/stupid to do anything, aaaaand our political systems require that they do for change. Additionally, our Controllers encourage them not to.
3. -- The individual chooses not to live in this world, and figures, let's make the suicide worth it, and take out some drones.

That's what I think he was thinking.

Thuringwethil: I wrote the original article. I have no problem alerting others to its presence. Posting "copy and paste" into a thread is a generic threadkiller, and I'd think you can do better than that. Read the article and post a reply, or I'm going to assume that you copy and pasted the phrase "copy and paste" and pasted it into this thread.

-how would you propose, on a large scale, the world does anything to make this change. Or do you believe it has gone too far and cannot be repaired?

paragraph 2 says they are not all craving attention... but they are... we just need to find out why and not dismiss it as insane or childish straight off the bat. society is programmed to be hasty to avoid uncertainty.

Crimes like school shootings have happened since we could walk on two feet, and every type of society breeds a killer. It's not that surprising that this happened. In a conformity camp like high school, under the umbrella of a "developed" society, I wonder why it doesn't happen more. Who remembers high school? It's a popularity contest and nothing more, you could play the game or not. You were rewarded for your apathy. Perfect preparation for the Real World.

(Finnish kid who shot up a school last Nov.)

This kid snapped because he's an idiot. I'm not going to blame parents, the media, or entertainment. He saw that..well..humanity was overrated because he had no friends and no girls liked him, because he was an idiot, so he had this epiphany that humans in modern societies are no more than drones. Those who didn't follow the masses made their own groups and conformed to those. So he didn't have the balls to face life anymore, make the best of it, rise above the drones, formulate long-term goals, so he wanted to break the cycle and take out a few drones with him. He didn't fight for anything, no cause, nothing. He could have killed someone that would have went on to invent a light-speed engine or something. Asshole.

The students who shoot up schools are the mind controlled victims of a shadowy government conspiracy. When people fall victim to gun violence on a mass scale, it provides the Federal government with more ammunition to push for stricter gun control laws. Inevitably this is leading to the abolishment of the 2nd amendment in order to disarm all citizens. Only state and federal law enforcement, plus the military will have the right to bear arms. Wake up people!

hahah...if the government tries to abolish any part of the bill of rights, i'll be one of the millions to storm washington, maybe that's the wake up call we need..

but there is something in the tap water in finland. i couldn't stop drinking it. it's the best damn water in the world. there HAS to be something in it.

just miles from your doorstep hundreds of men are given weapons and trained to kill. the government calls it the "Army", but a more alarmist name would be....THE KILLBOT FACTORY!

I believe in two fundamental changes:

1. Changes in attitude from negative (reductive) to positive (deductive-inductive) reasoning.
2. Return of an aristocracy, or "rule of the best" as the term means in Greek, and an end to picking leaders morally or by popularity.

That's about it

I think that's a pretty good summary right there.

i'm pretty sure that every unpopular person thought about slaughtering everyone they didn't like in school. people need to stop being pussies just because they don't have enough people to fill their "Top 8" on the gayspace.
