Human evolution is over![views:4097][posts:16]_________________________________________ [Oct 7,2008 11:43am - Conservationist ""] “In ancient times half our children would have died by the age of 20. Now, in the Western world, 98 per cent of them are surviving to 21.” “Small populations which are isolated can evolve at random as genes are accidentally lost. World-wide, all populations are becoming connected and the opportunity for random change is dwindling. History is made in bed, but nowadays the beds are getting closer together. We are mixing into a glo-bal mass, and the future is brown.” http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/science/article4894696.ece |

_______________________________ [Oct 7,2008 11:50am - aril ""] Wow, I remember reading a theory from a famous British scientist stating that 8,000 years from now, if we continue down our current path, the human species will be divided into two types: 1.) Educated, strong, good looking individuals 2.) slouched, hunchback, ugly short humans that do all physical labor |

The alarming prediction comes from evolutionary theorist Oliver Curry from the London School of Economics, who says that the human race will have reached its physical peak by the year 3000. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/art...n-race-split-different-species.html |

Its our brains that will develop. Eventually we'll be ugly fuckers with giant heads to accomodate our huge brains. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In the 1600's fat chicks were considered hot. |

If you're speaking of physical mutations, it's true that we probably won't change all that much, but we still do have a lot of vestigial organs that cause more problems than good now (appendix, wisdom teeth, etc.) that will likely disappear over time. Plague is also a big factor; for example how a small segment of the population seems to be resistant to HIV naturally. We'll evolve, just not in a totally obvious way. i do think it's true that we will become less physical since we depend on machines for a lot these days (especially travel). |
