BornSoVile said:
just got back from seeing it with Ma. it was really good and better than I expected. it hasn't converted me from my beliefs in the slightest bit. I agree with Ninkaszi, it portrays them not only as bad but stupid, the best example was when they freed barbarra. you can see where some people say queers brought down the romans when you see king herod. i think the earthquake when the tear/raindrop falls is bullshit and never happened. the torture scene wasn't that bad, the entire movie is a great display of ancient torture as well the usually idiodic (sp? :p) trial process people faced. worth seeing again and I'm tempted to buy it on dvd. Hail Gibson.
King Herod was a Hebrew King..... He has a Jewish name and was of hebrew/jewish blood..... and "Queers" were no the reason that rome fell, thats religious dogma, Rome fell after the Huns destroyed Constantinople in the 8th century prior to that Rome was falling apart at the seems anyway, too many leaders and the empire was too big... back to the movie, I dont think this movie portrayed the jews as bad or stupid... I dont think the movie was anti-semetic at all. It showed the greed/lust of the Jewish people of this time. They were starving for freedom from the Romans and wanted to make everything right witht the romans and when Jesus came into play they saw him as threat to there way of life and their ties to the romans. They did not persicute jesus because he thought he was the king of man, they persicuted him for politcal reasons. Jesus could have taken Jerusilem days prior to the crucifiction with the army his diciples gathered days prior, but jesus knew (hypetheticly) that had to die so that no more blood shed was to happen and the Jews seeing him as a threat to their way of life had him killed because they knew he was powerful... and the Barabbas scene showed the actual inteligence of the Jewish hirarchy. they knew they needed to destroy Jesus. releasing a rapist and murder that would end up back in prison for another crime later down the road was a smart move, They killed two birds with one stone, knowing the he would end up back in prison and Jesus was no more. It was a political murder and nothing more.. Mel Gibson portrayed that wonderfuly. :skull:
