Well, when you smoke dirt it does give you a nasty headache. Now the shit I've been getting lately, this is some crazy good shit! I suppose me saying, "Live and let live" won't go over too well over here, given that people like to make a big deal over whether or not they drink/smoke. I also suppose that it also won't go over well when I say that making a big deal over doing drugs/not doing drugs is fucking retarded.
I certainly respect straight-edgers, they've got strength to say no, but sure as hell they're missing out on something, and to miss out on something in this world is a shame.
Besides, I still think that Nancy Reagan has had a big influence in the straight edge scene, even though most won't admit it. (I don't do any drugs, but sometimes drink like a fish... drugs don't go over too well with my body chemistry, for some reason)
I suppose I'm making a big deal over not making a big deal over it. ::shrug::

That's awesome! I'm really the only one in my band that smokes, we all drink moderately (some more than others) but the alcoholic from the band that was really bringing us down is no longer with us! Your statement I quoted above is the perfect example of personal choice. That's the problem our old bassist has, he has no control over anything and he actually likes it that way. That wasn't working for us as a band!

what an assinine comment to make. so because i don't drink or do drugs or fuck a different girl every night i'm missing out on something? the way i see it is i'm getting more out of life, because i'm not living it through a cloud of smoke or beer goggles.
i didn't claim edge because it was the trendy thing to do. i did all that stuff in high school, and when i graduated i realized that i didn't need it to be happy. i've seen what all that stuff does to you, and i've decided i don't like it. i've got a huge group of friends now who are all edge, and a couple who aren't, and i have a ton of fun with all of them. we're not missing out on anything. we're just living our lives drug and alcohol free.

And that's my point. You saw what could happen and choose not to do it. That's what I'm all about, man. At least you tried it, didn't like it, and didn't do it again, as opposed to those who refuse to try it and protest it. I've always believed in the 'understand where someone's coming from, so I'll try it myself' point of view on things.

I dont care if your edge or whatever ive got a ton of friends who are edge , but ive noticed lately a lot of the younger kids tend to shove the whole sXe thing in your face. Besides its hard to have respect for some kids who claim they are straight edge but they minute they turn 21 its a totally different story. I like weed A LOT , but i dont go telling kids to smoke it

i completely agree with everything said in this paragraph. well, everything except the "i like weed A LOT" part. it's very hard to have respect for edge kids when half of them are claiming edge just to do it, and when they realize that it's way easier to just give in and get drunk and high, they drop the sXe label like it's a retarded baby. i've been edge for about 4 years now, right through my 21st birthday. i let people know i'm edge, but i don't go around flaunting it or shoving it in people's faces like you said. those people tend to be the ones that give up on it after a couple weeks or months.
i'm glad this thread actually turned into a respectable conversation on the pros and cons of being edge or not.
