fact of the matter is: "Of One Blood" is infinitely better than "Somber Eyes..." . OH NO!!11 IT DOESN'T HAVE BREAKDOWN!!111 THE RECORDING IS BETTER!11 LOLZ!111 THEER IZ A S0Lo!!11. give it a rest. anyone that appreciates musicianship at its finest knows that that OOB is way better, more mature, and a hell of a lot more structured then SETTS. its not selling out. its called using TALENT. the guitar playing on that is awesome and the melodies and harmonies/counter-harmonies are superb. mix that with better song writing and you have a better album. even "The Art of Balance" is better. its great that you like aggression, but labling an inferior album superior to the others because they are not as "heavy" is absolutely absurd. not only that, but you have a defective view on music.

this thread has gone on for too long and it is getting very redundant

everyone has different opinions on selling out some think that if a band starts gaining a lot of popularity and are starting to headline more and are on more "mainstream" festivals such as ozzfest or something that they have sold out, in my opinion if a band changes their sound and i mean drastically changes their whole attitude and output on the music their making, they start doing it to appeal to a much bigger audience for more profit, however a band can be put on the radio and tv and stuff and not neccessarily sell out, unless of course it's mtv, and yes mtv does suck because they are a corporate telivision broadcasting company that is based on creating profit, they didnt used to be but this is what they have become
now this applies to mainly metal because bands like the white stripes are on mtv and they didnt really sell out, people are just getting more and more into the sort-of prog rock genre that they are
this mainly applies to metal because it is a more intense music than mtv would want to play because they think they would lose viewers that love pop and rap music and bands like evanescence and linkin park (who i must say both suck horribly)
that is why bands that change so they are able to be played on mtv suck and are sellouts

No way, Somber Eyes is better, Phil was a much better vocalist, the songs are played much tighter and the grittier recording rules. Of One Blood is retarded, it was much sloppier sounding, the recording was way to clean, the vocals are all terrible, and the newer songs on it are gay.

basically:

BachogreCtron: I forgot, what's phantom limbs bassist's name?
NotCommonRecords: Kevin
BachogreCtron: that is, I knew it was something yuppie

Can you really blame bands for wanting to make money? Or wanting to try new things musically?

I got the new Dream Theater cd, and it's completely different from their old stuff, it sounds like something that they'd play on AAF, but whatever, why would a band want to constantly keep playing the same things over and over, it would get boring. As for the money, they work hard for it.

working hard for the money is one thing, but having
money and acting like a cunt is another thing. metallica
is playing here in a few days and they gave away tickets
and back stage passes and they're having some party
before the show to meet the band... BUT, the guys that were
giving away the passes said not to hold your breath if you
wanna meet metallica 'cos they prolly won't want to be around
people... now that's a load of crap. good thing i think anything
after the black album is shit, not the shit, but just shit.

when you form a band, 98% of the time that band is commited to one style of music. Cannibal Corpse was formed as a death metal band. Dimmu Borgir was formed as a black metal band. Hatebreed was formed as a hardcore band, and Metallica was formed as a speed metal band. it's one thing to progress musically, and accustom your style to the newer forms of the genre you started playing, but you stay within that genre. as soon as you completely change styles, and no longer play that certain type of music, change the band name. Cannibal Corpse is, and will always be remembered as a death metal band. if they want to go ahead and start playing black metal, fine, but change the band name, because Cannibal Corpse is not a black metal band. Metallica failed to do that. when you're a speed metal band, moving forward does not mean hurrying the fuck up in the studio, nor does it mean slowing down your songs. when they get nominated for music awards, it's usually for something like "best hard rock band". HARD ROCK!!! not metal, but rock. very simply put, Metallica changed their style, henceforth, they are no longer Metallica. now why does that mean they sold out? because they are still selling a product under the name Metallica, even though it's not truly Metallica. If they changed their band name to go along with the style they play now, for example let's say Frantic, chances are they wouldn't sell nearly as many albums as they do now. do u see where i'm getting at here?

one more thing:
of course we want to all make money. every musician in the world would kill to be able to live off of playing music. but for me personally, i feel my dignity and self respect is more important than money.
