By now, the sound of Burl Ives singing "Holly Jolly Christmas" may make you want to stab yourself in the ear with a candy cane, but if you hear what I hear, there are lots of Christmas covers and originals from local artists such as Certainly Sir, the Rudds, Soltero and lots of others.

Where can you hear these? They are sort of rare, but that's why Boston Band Crush is here to shine a light.

BBC's own Jeff Breeze has done a masterful job in the past few years of spinning locally-grown holiday music on Pipeline! (tonight at 8PM). Tonight, Mr. Breeze is going to send a full two-hour broadcast shooting into the air, so tune your radio dial to 88.1 FM this evening.

Some of my own favorites include Tristan da Cunha's take on "Skating" from the Vince Guaraldi (read: Charlie Brown) Christmas album and the Blackstone Valley Sinners' ripping take "Feliz Navidad." And of course there's always Certainly Sir's look at the Waitresses' weird sung-spoken "Christmas Wrapping." On the same electronic tip, there's Cassette's Christmas offering, w/special thanks to Mr. Potvin.

New this year we have a cover of "A Fairytale of New York" by Yoni Gordon, but it seems little else is new in local holiday music with the exception of Rich "Rich Horror" Goodwin's Rich Horror Xmas, which is truly something to behold.

Anyone?
