In metal, the hipster is the person always trying to be different, to pick music that is brainy or "authentic" (simple), the person spreading trends and fads. Instead of being an authentic fan who picks the music he or she thinks is best, the hipster is using the music as adornment to conceal their ordinariness. At that point I'd gotten over the Dragonlance stuff and at the time I thought it was really awesome high fantasy. I read the next few books in the series and I think I stopped at Faith of the Fallen. I really enjoyed them when I was a kid, they were massive and at the same time easy to grasp - it only focused on a handful of characters and there wasn't a lot of crazy underlying themes or intrigue. Faith of the Fallen was alright, the main character gets imprisioned in some dark-age dictatorship country and shows people humanism and art. I have no desire to pick up the series again. |
