SRSLY, I realize now that I've never really taken the time to fully appreciate Vol. 4. I mean, I've liked it since I got it, and it's got a few of my absolute favorite Sabbath songs on it (Snowblind, Supernaut), but I've never sat down and picked it apart the way I have with the previous three. Especially with headphones - some of the overdubs and background stuff going on there are amazing and way ahead of their time.

I'm actually listening with just the left earbud in to check out the bass stuff - all kinds of wacky shit in that side when you take out most of the lead stuff on the right track.

"I've done that, man."

"Yeah, man?"

"Yeah, with Grand Funk"

the wizard. Ftw. I've always wanted to cover that song but I know I could never pull off the harmonica solo. I could try and hilarity will ensue.

We always pulled that solo off with a Rusty Trombone.

W3 speaks truth - heaviest riffs/song, EVAR.

Yeah, I would have to agree about Into the Void -- the opening riff is beyond heavy and the chorus riff can only lead to epic head-banging.

actually there's a trombone rock/funk band that covers The Wizard. Trust me when I say it is an enormous amount of win!

i have no idea why but the opening harmonica from The Wizard is on a song from Carnival of Carnage by ICP, i think its "Guts on the Ceiling".

Where can you find 78s these days? Every used record shop I've been to only has 33s and 45s.

Also, while obviously not as good as Ozzy and Dio, Tony Martin era Black Sabbath is way underrated. I've been rocking "Cross Purposes" lately.

Ian Gillan on the other hand...

Play the Wizard harmonica part on a pastrami sandwich a la Al Bundy.

I think you'll mainly find 78s in old blues/jazz/swing/country/folk stuff.

I totally agree with you on this one. So glad there are others that feels this way.

Tyr is a hugely underrated album as well. The first song, while not as heavy as some other songs, is one of my fav Black Sabbath songs. The riff is godly.
