You are in total control of what your computer does and what information it broadcasts. There is no "government backdoor" to get to your data. Anybody that tells you otherwise is a conspiracy theorist and an ignorant computer user. Stay away from all major antivirus software (Norton). I haven't run antivirus software in 7 years.
