Hey RTTP-

I have a Fender Showman Tube Amplifier that is currently broken. It's an older one, built in 1964.

It broke about 1 year ago and I've forgotten about getting it fixed. One day I turned it on and nothing turned on- even when I plugged in nothing happened(so it's not just the light). I'm by no means one for gear smarts, so I'd like to know if any of you have hints about what might be wrong, or if you know anyone near the Winchendon/Gardner area that could fix it.

I love this thing, and I'd love to play it again. Hope you guys can help.

Thanks all!

First thing to check would be the actual switch. I had a problem with an old/cheap (read: shitty) Fender combo I have. It was just the switch. I haven't actually fixed it yet haha.
It could be a whole slew of things though so check that first.

Alright, awesome.
What exactly should I be looking at here, though?
What's an indicator that the switch is broken?

You might need to take it apart and see if the leads inside connect anymore. Take the amp out of the chassis and look at that general area. If it's not immediately obvious, eh. Talk to a tech.

Well, I just discovered something that might be damning, dunno.
This fuse thing that pulls out in the back is brown/black/foggy looking.
Any advice on that?

First place I would check would be the fuse. If it's blown, replace it with the same type. It would also be a good idea to replace the power tubes at the same time. If it blows again, take it to a tech.

sounds like you know little enough to just leave to a tech. not trying to be a dick at all with that comment either.

I agree with blue, only because i tried to fix a loose connection (bass head) with an easy solder, and i made the thing worse. It stopped working completely.... and i soldered at my job every day, just not in amps.

Haha, yeah dude. Not too sharp with these things. I'm leaving the thing alone for now. Thanks for the pointers all!

Try the fuse actually. Haha, I always forget about fuses. That won't cost you much and if it still doesn't work it rules out at least one thing.

good idea Martins, it's not like he can hurt anything replacing a fuse.

Just make sure it's the same type of fuse. Should say right next to where you took it out of.
