I need some new music.

So I'm going to (just north of) Lisbon and Madrid for a total of a week next week and I need some new music. Even if I weren't going anywhere, I'd need something new to listen to because I'm bored of everything metal.

I'm into everything except more grindy stuff (not yet, at least). You can probably get a good idea here: http://www.last.fm/user/gtrbmart

Regardless, recommend me anything interesting, quirky, or just GOOD.

Those guys are so perfect they are only fit for each other. The female creatures groveling at their feet are clearly not a match, and must be there to clean up after real men satisfy each other the only way they can -- with violence and sodomy.

Check that blog out. Probably one of the best music blogs on the net.

They've got some REAL underground shit from the 70s. It's hard to find some of the shit on the net and the record itself; let alone anywhere else.

Just about everythin on that site is very unique and from all over the world. My favorite Indonesian prog band is called "Giant Step". Also check out the band "Camel" (although you can buy this stuff as it's more available than most) and a bunch of other stuff which is available on that site.

I'm assuming you've heard of Barış Manço. About a year or two ago, I was recommended his album Yeni Bir Gun and I was instantly hooked. Haven't checked out his other stuff, but this album is great. Turkish prog ftw!

I been really getting into the Afro-Cosmic sound. Not even fucking around. It's amazing. Go to kicktokill.blogspot.com, seek out Daniele Baldelli's Baia Degli Angeli tapes and transport yourself back to a long lost age. Dream of blowing ignorant loads of coke with wild yachting guineas and plowing through dense tufts o muff while Grace Jones cheers you on. Kinda like a night out with Rich Horror... only different.

I've also been really into live shit from the 70s. Uriah Heap, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy and ESPECIALLY the sacred August 5th, 1975 Asbury Park Black Sabbath soundboard recording. At risk of sounding like a right proper retard, I will say that this recording made me fall in love with Sabbath all over again - like I was hearing them for the first time. Best set list you could possibly think of and the jams like Black Sabbath, War Pigs, Iron Man and Paranoid sound heavier than fuck tuned down to C#. Given the age of the recording, the heaviness and quality of sound blow me away every time I listen to it - which is often. I'll post links to download it later if you can't find it.

Boys of the Lough - S/T

The early years

Their first album, called Boys of the Lough (1972) consisted of Aly Bain (born 15.5.1946, in Lerwick, Shetland, Scotland) (fiddle), Cathal McConnell (born 8.6.1944, in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, Northern Ireland) (flute), Dick Gaughan (born Richard Peter Gaughan, 17.5.1948, in Rutherglen, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland) vocals and guitar) and Robin Morton (born 24.12.1939, in Portadown, Co Armagh, Northern Ireland) (flute).
Since the 1960s the Forest Hill Bar in Edinburgh had been a centre for folk singers and instrumentalists. In a pub now called "Sandy Bell's", fiddler Aly Bain played along with guitarist Mike Whelans and singer Dick Gaughan in sessions. Aly Bain was from the Shetland Islands, and steeped in the Shetland style of playing. Meanwhile in Ireland, Cathal McConnell was an All-Ireland champion in both flute and whistle. He was from a family of flute players in County Fermanagh in Ireland. Cathal's musical collaborators were Tommy Gunn and Robin Morton. The two halves met at Falkirk folk festival in Scotland, and formed Boys of the Lough.

Gaughan left to pursue a solo career and Dave Richardson (born David Richardson, 20.8.1948, in Corbridge, Northumberland) (mandolin) joined.

This line-up (wittout Gaughan) was constant for the next six albums. Dave Richardson was also a writer of new material. They played ensemble instrumentals and the occasional song, equally divided between traditional sources from Ireland and Scotland.[From Wikipedia]

Apparently they were kind of a big deal in Ireland in the 70's. Like the Sugar Cubes to Enya's Bjork.

Yes I have. That's the kind of post rock I can't get in to as much. Too percussion-y without all the airy ambiance that makes Sigur Ros so moving.
