Oh The Bad Plus covered Avril 14th?

They covered Flim.

Flim is an older Aphex Twin song than Avril 14th.

I hear some similarity. So, I guess Aphex Twin was pretty close to sounding like Aphex Twin

Because age has to do with liking (shitty) electronic music? I just don't get this kind of music. There's no feel. If I'm in the mood for electronic music, I'll just throw on some BoC, or Kraftwerk, or Bibio, or Helios or all the other electronic artists that do it better. Just sayin'

Given, I haven't listened to that particular song. I'm at work and can't but I had a friend that got hardcore into Aphex Twin and would show me stuff all the time and I hated all of it.

Listen to Autechre or Donnacha Costello and then talk to us about electronic music. I never understood the "getting it" argument. You either like something or you don't.

Well Aphex Twin DOES do that you know...In fact most of his early works were created that way. This kinda shows just how clueless you are about the whole subject. Pretty much every aphex twin album is completely different so there is a good chance you might like at least one of them. We're talking about one of the most prolific electronic artists who has experimented with just about every genre of electronic from acid house to ambient..

Autechre is probably my favorite artist of this genre though. Seeing them live at the middle east last year was amazing. Aphex and all his other side projects are a close second.

Ok, here are some of my 2 cents, or at least a half of a cent.
Keep in mind I didn't really read this thread but LOLed at what I saw.

You think metal has a bunch of sub-genres? Look at electronic music. In fact, I think the history of electronic music may even be more fascinating than the history of metal. Why? Because it's gone in so many different directions and has been all over the musical spectrum - and then back again.
What REALLY irks me is people that listen only to Trance, and then claim to be huge fans of electronic music.
Electronic music usually relates to the technology at the time, and can also be extremely trendy. We all remember when Trance was hugely popular and a bunch of tools thought they were so cool for listening to "techno."

Electronic music, like metal, is a vast universe of sounds and musicians, but people only really listen to the tip of the iceberg with it.. unless they're real fans.
To mock or underestimate Aphex Twin's achievements and accomplishments within modern electronic music is intolerable. I'll leave this thread shaking my head in disappointment, Martins.

I disagree with the above statements by aril and C.Dead. I don't like reason... but Fruity Loops is the easiest sequencer to use, hands down. Reason is limiting in that it forces you to use the synths provided with the software... Fruity Loops allows VST and DXi plugins. Fruity is not a cheat to use vs. any other software (Cubase, Logic, etc).... and allows great functionality in conjunction with hardware midi devices and synths. It's a good tool for what it does.

I was always opposed to programs like these. Just makes shit way simple and takes out the fun for me. Fuck, I never even recorded digitally with analog sequencers/drum/bass/loop/whathaveyou machines. I am not one of those analog elitists either (though I do prefer it), I am just broke and analog is always the cheaper, easier way to go. Thats just my two gay cents.

I'm pretty much on the same page as C.dEad .
It always felt like the computer/sequencers did all the work.
Making electronic music to me was always fun because I got to experiment with sounds, samples, and all that jazz. I don't like when the software does all that crap for you.
