STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - Sweden's Progressive venders of gloom and doom, KATATONIA, have launched a mini-site for their highly anticipated, forthcoming album, Night is the New Day, due out November 10th on Peaceville Records in the US (and Nov 2nd in the UK/EU)

Fans that sign up for the Katatonia mailing list at NightIsTheNewDay.com will also receive a free download of a brand new track off the upcoming release, "Forsaker" (which you can download for your website HERE)

Even Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH has praised the upcoming release: "KATATONIA's [forthcoming album] 'Night Is The New Day' is possibly the greatest 'heavy' record I've heard in the last 10 years."

The band will be filming a video for "Day & Then The Shade" as well as releasing a single for it in October.

The track list for Night is the New Day is...
01. Forsaker
02. The Longest Year

Following the completion of the album, Katatonia will head out on a European tour with the likes of Porcupine Tree and Paradise Lost.

"Night is the New Day"

Sigh... should be "We are teh New Gay"

Now that it's October, I think I'll throw on some October Tide instead.

I was actually going to make a thread about this weeks ago. About how Mikael Akerfeldt was hyping the album up for his best bud Jonas, and how Katatonia still isn't putting out quality records.

I love the idea of not buying this album, saving cash, all while sitting at home and playing BMD styled riffs. It's a beautiful thing.

New Alice in Chains is what newer Katatonia wishes they could sound like.

looking forward to this album and definitely don't see the AIC/katatonia connection. two completely different bands.

even though they are best friends, i doubt mikael akerfeldt would hype a crappy record just to help his buddies sell something that isn't strong enough to sell itself. he's putting his credibility and integrity on the line by claiming it's the best heavy album he's heard in 10 years. that's a weighty statement that he has committed himself to. whether or not you think mikael's opinion is relevant these days is your own decision. i'm sure there are plenty of people out there who don't care what he thinks and don't think his credibility and integrity are intact anymore.

I'm not comparing AiC to the real Katatonia (BMD and before). AiC is known for their heavy, mid-paced "depressive" rock riffs, and both Cantrell and Staley can actually sing with emotion and distress. AiC also tackle dreary subject matters in their lyrics. In my view, this is exactly what Katatonia has been striving for, since giving up on metal, and they still haven't been able to capture a similar feeling which evidently comes natural to AiC.

Considering the fact that Akerfeldt is in a league of his own, as a professional songwriter; I'm definitely interested in what he has to say. Even if the last couple of Opeth albums aren't exactly what I've been looking for, he established his credibility long ago, and there's not much that can take away from it.

that's how i feel, so i take his claim about the new katatonia album seriously. i don't think he's blowing smoke up our asses just to help a poor album sell. that said, i know you aren't a fan of any Katatonia album post-BMD, so you probably won't like it even if it turns out to be the best of the post-BMD albums.

Not entirely true. The songs "For My Demons" and "In Death, A Song", off of Tonight's Decision, are great tracks IMO.
