Either he or Papi had to go, and Papi was all but untradeable. Also, with the way Ortiz was swinging the bat at the end of last year, it looks like he's got a better chance of returning to form than Mikey. I'm fine w/them getting Beltre--so long as his deal is nowhere CLOSE to what he got in Seattle. He's considered by most to be the best defensive 3B in all of baseball, and even though his best offensive year was CLEARLY about steroids, his run differential would be better than Lowell's. I'd still much rather have Adrian Gonzalez at 1B and Youk at 3B though. |
