[QUOTE="arilliusbm:1042015"]I think the imagery and aesthetics expressed in "Viking" metal bands shall solely stay within the boundaries of real Viking influence and/or heritage. It is like how if a straightedge band preaches about being straightedge, but most of the band broke edge. It's a blatant hypocrisy to express specific values in the message of the music and not be a part of what you're talking about. Thy doesn't mean you can't do it (it is about the music after all) but it's a sure sign of a false act. Why be an artist if you're not behind what you're painting? Be real about what you preach, or represent everything that is wrong with metal today. If there's a "Viking" band from Florida preaching about the ancestors they didn't have, I won't listen to it. Falkenbach has gotten much shit over this issue over the years. As far as the pagan issue goes , I think you missed the point. Paganism is indeed another word for heathenisn, as defined by its use as a generalization among Christian or other monotheistic beliefs. When I listen to "Pagan" metal, Id prefer that the band actually be practicing "pagans," whether it be wodanism or other forms. Too many shitty-ass "pagan" bands throw that term around today. I never wanted Herugrim to be coined as a Viking or Pagan band, as we didn't fit the qualities of what I thought should represent those genres. In short, use HEATHEN or FOLK if you want to give in to the douchebag metal fans like myself. People should be real and true to their art, or, sadly, they'll just be another brick in the wall.
