I can't imagine that amp techs would be tube amp exclusive.

To fix a Marshall Valvestate, find nearest cliff, heave amp off.

if the one he is talking about is the 8100 (VS100) i would not throw it off a cliff at all. any amp that is responsible for getting the guitar sounds out of 50% of the death catalog and 'the bleeding' is cool in my book.

funny you mentioned having a problem with a Marshall valvestate, is it the AVT150H? mine is messed up too. the gain channel isn't producing any juice, just a very faint buzzy sound. the clean channel was fine though. I gotta get mine fixed too.

When was the last time you changed the preamp tube?

Have you ever changed the preamp tube?

I've replaced it and it still had the same problem. it's probably a wiring issue, I gotta mess with that thing again.

confound your lousy toll, troll

the issue with this amp is that it fell off a cliff, err, cab and now the sound fades in and out (im serious) so i doubt its the preamp tube

Shit. Guess that means I have to heave my Marshall AVT150 Head off of a cliff as well.

I scooped it up as a shit beater head. Put a Penta Labs 12AX7 in it (per suggestion of www.dougstubes.com). Curious to hear how it sounds when playing loud.

preamp tube change does next to nothing in valvestates, its more of a gimmick than anything else.

Andrew, have you ever heard Rob go off about Solid State shit at Mr. Music? HAHAHAHA dude refused to fix my friends ampeg solid state because "they sound like shit." hahaha

Rob at Mr Music is actually super super super good at buildng tube amps and can fix whatever you send him in that direction. He's the dude that fixes all the super fucked up shit at Mad Oak.

I don't remember what model I had (probably 10 years ago now), but it sounded ok out of the box, then gradually started sounding shittier and shittier. Besides using my flextone for a practice amp, I'm through with solid state.

Devin: all I know is that I heard that Mr Music generally isnt the best place to bring gear for repair but I figured they must AT LEAST be able to do a quick solid state repair...I probably wrong though as personally I dont have any repair experience with that place...
