The Worcester History Museum was going to be moved there, along with a number of Blackstone Valley exhibits, visitor's center, etc.

They couldn't have burned down anything else, like a Chinese laundromat? What a depressing fucking shithole this city is.

Totally. Considering the fires of 99'(?), this is ridiculous.

i figured it was arson, that building was a prime location after the street that used to connect Greenwood to the old 146 was closed. i blame Millbury, now THAT is a depressing fucking shithole.

think it was white power groups? I would think it was some kind of guy with interest of building a walmart there or something.
 _______________________________
[Mar 25,2010 10:48am - Yeti ""]
funny you say that, there is a super Wal-Mart being built in the lot next to it.

[Mar 25,2010 10:48am - arktouros ""]
They're actually building a Walmart supercenter a mile or so down the road on 146, but that's a different issue.
I'm sure it was a homeless guy that just wanted to start a fire.

worcester and worcester county have plenty of culture. you're just an anti-worcesterite.

The couple times I went to Worcester I never even saw another person walking around on the street, but I'm no expert on the place I suppose.

ive lived here for most of my life. much like any city, there are some seedy areas but for the most part its very comfortable city.
 ______________________________
[Mar 25,2010 5:18pm - Lamp ""]
I wasn't talking about that, I was talking about the fact that there was no culture there because the place seems like a total ghost town.

[Mar 25,2010 5:21pm - FuckIsMySignature ""]
exactly its more comfortable that way. we have a "cultural district"... its called Lincoln Plaza and Main South. avoid if possible.

Any city in MA is full of culture and/or history.

Hell, Brockton was world-known at one point. It was an epicenter for shoe production and had endless factory jobs. Now it's a shithole.
New Bedford was one of the richest cities in the world at one point. The whaling industry made it thrive. Fall River was well known for creating textiles.
MA, at one point, was indeed an epicenter for culture and wealth. Now it's a fucking shithole.

I'm not a fan of when people say ant given area lacks culture. MA was a very powerful and influential area at one point.
Before whiteman came, as well. The Blackstone natives in the valley were fearsome warriors with more courage than any fag posting in this board.

Haha, thank you aril...Worcester is one of the first American cities, rivaling Boston at one point and for a while it was the most industrial city in the country. There's literally hundreds of factory buildings around here and some still active. Now it's more or less just a typical northeastern city with a relatively low crime rate and an unforgivable amount of spic churches.

And yeah before that, the Nipmucs were at the center of a trade network stretching from the great lakes to the mid Atlantic. So do we, but you know.

lol @ spic churches. dont forget the Nigerian 2nd Floor Office building churches that sing praises to the internet scam gods.

it's hard to believe how powerful this area was at one point.

But if you've got a vivid imagination and are walking around in the old factory districts, you can picture the industrial revolution. This area was no joke. Jobs, wealth, influence. It's amazing what can happen in 150 years. That's what happens when you've got corruption, among other things.

ya main street and downtown used to be a very affluent area before the tornado ripped it apart. same goes for Great Brook Valley. which is now stabville.

Well when I meant a lack of culture, I was talking specifically about now. I like all the cool old buildings in Worcester myself, just like all the cool old buildings in Providence or any other New England city I've been to. It certainly beats the majority of cities in the south where the historical district is about two blocks surrounded by another few blocks of upscale shopping, then surrounded by houses built in the last 15 years.

Norton Company alone was an amazing site once upon a time. it was a self-sufficient town within the city. i love this shitty city, there are so many sections that don't even resemble a city. the Salisbury St. and Tatnuck Square area are really nice. the Cascade trails are awesome too.

I work right near the building that burned down. It was crazy all day... cop cars, fire trucks, 146 exit blocked off, etc.

lol @ the Midtown Mall

Has anyone ever been in there? Seriously. I've lived in Worcester for almost 11 years, and I've only been there twice: once at 3am when I went to a friend's band room on the opposite side from the Darkwor/Zircon room, and once during the day when it was open. That place has plenty of culture. It's just plain scary.
