I'd say on average maybe there are less female fans but the ratio is a lot closer than first meets the eye when it comes listening to the music; live is a different story, on average female fans are noticably less likely to go to shows, especially when it comes to popping up at a random local show, but I think this has more to do with metal being very individualistic in spirit (you don't have to call up a bunch of friends to go to a concert, you can just go, and most women are generally less likely to go to a concert without at least one friend to shoot the shit with). When it comes to upper body strength you are one-hundred percent right, I'm skinny as a rail but I could overpower most women in an arm-wrestling match. The thing is, lower body strength is different, women can have deceptively strong legs and have a naturally lower center of gravity, so the whole idea of one gender physically stronger than the other isn't exactly right in either direction. Women who are unable to defend themselves effectively against a guy usually screw themselves by flailing their arms wildly, when a one-to-one test of upper body strength is the area they're guaranteed to fail at. |
