I'm more of a fan of older nokturnal mortum, like goat horns, lunary poetry, etc.
but this new album is certainly incredible. the production is ridiculous for them and they've got pink floyd type parts now. the atmosphere is extremely prevalent as well. definitely one of their best albums...and one of the best albums to come out in the past few months.

Eh I tend not to read the lyrics as I don't understand slavic or Norwegian and thus english translations would fail to bring across the emotional aspect of the music.
But I'm all for living in the woods free of the man taking my money so I guess this is why I tend to love bands like Nokturnal Mortum and Negura Bunget, they sound like something that a bunch of angry farmers made after a night of drinking in some moon-lit grove in eastern European forests.

lol, you drummers care way too much about drum sounds sometimes.
although I am somewhat with you, I'm not opposed to triggers in "atmospheric" metal.
Granted, the real thing is more organic and real sounding- which is better. When I think atmosphere though, I think of guitars/keys/vocals/production. Drums are usually the last thing I worry about unless it's unbearable

the old bass player joke is that we can't hear the technical parts of music, which is true for me. I listen to music and then if I have a guitar-nerd listening with me they point out all this shit that I can't pick up. Like what kind of guitars they are using, keys they are playing in. I play bass purely by ear with the least bit of knowledge of music theory, I know how to read sheet music but that's where my knowledge of theory ends.
