recommend me one of them bass overdrives or some shit[views:6853][posts:40]___________________________________ [May 8,2010 7:44pm - immortal13 ""] Looking to add a little drive to my sound. Basically what I'm looking for is something I can use that will sound almost eactly like my clean sound with a little bit of overdrive to it. I'm thinking a sansamp, but what else would you dudes recommend? |

___________________________________ [May 8,2010 7:56pm - immortal13 ""] Keeping it around 3 or 4 instead of 6 or 7 would make that one pretty similar to what I want. |

____________________________________________ [May 9,2010 12:06am - neverpurified nli ""] for what you're going for, either the sansamp or the mxr m80. I own both and they both have completely different tones, you'd be smart to try both out |

________________________________________________ [May 10,2010 3:14pm - matt_sways_in_the_wind ""] nooooo sans amp noooooo malasadas from b-sharp. it has a clean boost (witch will overdrive your preamp)and a distortion circuit. it's the closest pedal i've heard to sounding like tubes. brian thanks for posting that colorsound bass fuzz for me. i want it like blowjobs. |

________________________________________________ [May 10,2010 3:32pm - matt_sways_in_the_wind ""] the sans amp will color your sound waaaay too much. it will not retain your clean sound in the slightest. all it will give you is a muddy scooped mess. and the grit is just buzz. plus they are way overpriced. |

________________________________________________ [May 10,2010 4:06pm - matt_sways_in_the_wind ""] i used to use my sansamp in a tool tribute band so it will kinda get that sound. if your getting a good tone with your amp sound, a clean boost is really going to help make your bass cut. the sansamp is really just a mud box. i know a lot of people swear by it and i did too but i just can't stand how sterile it is now. Fuck, what kind of amp do you have? |
_______________________________ [May 10,2010 4:11pm - boxxy ""] sansamp is NOT mudbox. you're ears are the MUDBOXES! haha, what? |

Fuck, what kind of amp do you have? i have an ampeg combo amp and i have to pump the thing to 11 at practice because the drums reverberate so much off the walls. assholes built the thing without a external output so i cant add another cab to it. |
_____________________________________ [May 10,2010 4:30pm - The_Rooster ""] Bassist in my band has been using a Fulltone OCD, and it sounds really fucking good. Retains the lowend better than a lot of other ODs we've tried on bass. If you want to hear it, scroll down here, and check out "Silence". It's on the "doom part" (3:25) at the end (Warwick bass ---> OCD ---> V4). |
________________________________________________ [May 10,2010 4:31pm - matt_sways_in_the_wind ""] it seems to me that all ampeg amps built in the last 5-10 years are incapable of producing a quality tone that can cut, except of course the svt. every one i've played has a preamp that clips at practice volume levels. the sansamp will make a difference with your amp that i'm sure you will be happy with. again i'm gonna have to plug the malasadas pedal. the clean boost is a thing of beauty. |
________________________________________________ [May 10,2010 4:32pm - matt_sways_in_the_wind ""] mmm fulltone ocd. yes yes yes. i've heard great things about the bass fulldrive too. |
_______________________________________ [May 10,2010 4:44pm - Escape_Artist ""] I use a Fulltone OCD on guitar and love it. also have a fulltone clyde deluxe.. they make great pedals. if i were a bass player the first one i would try would be a fulltone. the bass big muff sounds good and so does the MXR El Grande Bass Fuzz Pedal. the bass blayer in my band uses both. |
___________________________________________ [May 10,2010 5:13pm - FuckIsMySignature ""] i'll keep an eye for the Fulltone |
______________________________ [May 10,2010 5:30pm - blue ""] never heard an OCD through a bass rig, i could only imagine to be quite nice though. the bass fulldrive is fantastic as well for something nice and versatile. |
___________________________________ [May 10,2010 5:51pm - narkybark ""] only distortion pedals from the 1980's are real. |
____________________________________ [May 10,2010 6:06pm - immortal13 ""] I use an ampeg svt4. Love how it sounds, I just want to add some real growl to it. |
___________________________________ [May 10,2010 7:02pm - Spaldino ""] i thought the SVT signature sound was it's "growl" ? just get a sansamp. |
________________________________________ [May 10,2010 7:07pm - DestroyYouAlot ""] It's got a super warm growly sound, but for actual distorted growl, having the SansAmp in front helps you push the preamp more of the time, and with better sustain. The SansAmp will also let you play a little looser with the dynamics - to get the most out of an uneffected SVT (in my experience, at least), you need to turn the gain up and play pretty lightly, so as not to be constantly triggering the input gate (which doesn't do wonders for the sound when it's constantly on). The SansAmp in front compresses the sound nicely, so you can hammer on it a little more here and there. The way I have mine set up, when I feather the strings it's hot and punchy, when I hammer them (or play chords), it sounds like a Marshall. Do like. |
____________________________________ [May 10,2010 7:14pm - immortal13 ""] Now when it comes to the sansamp pedal, do you guys who use them use it as an outboard preamp and use your head as a power section only? Or do you use it as an effect in chain going bass-sansamp-amp? |
___________________________________ [May 10,2010 7:18pm - Spaldino ""] i would use both, but that is just me. you have all of those tone options... try every configuration out, see what you like. |
________________________________________ [May 10,2010 7:29pm - DestroyYouAlot ""] I have it in front of the amp input. So fake tubes into real tubes, LOL. |

__________________________________ [May 16,2010 11:54pm - t2daeek ""] in the hierarchy of bass overdrive, i would list them as such: 1. 200-300 watt tube amp 2. tube overdrive pedal with 12at7's (usually used in SVT series tube amps) 3. tube overdrive pedal with 12ax7's (little more gain) 4. marshall guv'nor overdrive (very smooth, but can sound like a chainsaw missing a lot of teeth) 5. ibanez phat hed (noisey and kinda weird, but big and fat. no loss of low end) 6. sans amp bass driver (versatile with nice option of blending clean and drive, presence knob is key. it never gives you over the top distortion though) 7. DOD overdrive preamp (very wooly and cool sounding, but lacks definition. good with a pick) 8. boss bass overdrive (the metal zone for bass, unless you use the metal zone with bass which is actually cooler. has that blend knob, which helps) all in my opinion obviously... (also omitting fuzzes) i know a lot of guys like the sans amp very much, and you'll be happy with it if you're set on it, but i would try a lot of different stuff. if you have cash, i would buy a couple, play loud with them and pick one that you like. |
______________________________ [May 17,2010 8:01am - blue ""] I really don't use my sansamp for overdrive, more of a touch of grit. For true bass overdrive though there are better options IMO. |
