The status of thrash metal in Boston.

Let us take some time and talk about the status of thrash metal around Boston. I don't live in the city so please enlighten me on what's going on with thrash metal around here.
There's the dawn of these "pizza thrash" bands which some love and some despise.
List reasons why these bands either a.) suck b.) are bad for thrash or c.) great.
Also list all non-"pizza" thrash bands around and provide links. basically, WHY are the thrash bands moving away towards a Sodom-esuqe sound and more towards a partyfuntime sound. Keep in mind I'm somewhat clueless on what constitutes these "pizza" bands. They're certainly cheesy.
Also, why aren't there many old school sounding thrash bands around anymore?
Help a brother out - it seems Boston thrash is evolving and ain't no body doin a damn thing about it.

Boston hasn't had any good Thrash since Abhorred and Extinction Agenda.
All of the other bands nowadays I find really boring, corny, safe and dry.
Pizza Thrash is applied to any band that throws a show with a keg and somehow convinces themselves that everyone is there for them, because they are amazing. Only true alcholics and headbangers can see through this veil of insecurity. It's a mystical gift that many refer to as "negativity" or "being close minded" or the abominable "elitist" accusation.

The thing about "pizza thrash" as some people like to put it, is that it isn't a purely metal genre. It's crossover. An equal parts punk and metal formula that to me has more to do with DRI than say, Slayer. The only reason it gets called "pizza thrash" rather than "crossover" is because of the lyrical content of the songs, which to me is pretty fucking stupid. So obviously if you like your thrash to be 100% metal then you're not going to dig the pizza bands.

I feel the same way, not specifically about thrash but more with any music I listen to. I always like the element of surprise so when a band can transition styles very rapidly and still make all the parts kick ass, those are my favorites.

I actually like a heavy helping of punk in my thrash (which is funny in and of itself since you only got thrash by dumping heavy helpings of punk on NWOBHM bands) - the whole crossover thing was huge for me - but from where I stand, what most of these pizza bands are doing is less "punk influence" and more "not playing so good".

To most thrash fans, the “big four” consists of Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. To the unsuspecting passerby of a thrash fan, the “big four” consists of indescribable odor, questionable stains, yellow teeth and unkempt lice infested hair.
No neo thrasher would be complete without his “kutte” or “battlejacket” or “smelly vest with way too many patches”. The kutte is the thrash equivalent of a TGI Fridays waitress vest, the more flare the merrier. Spending endless hours scouring ebay for patches and bedazzler replacement parts, he hardly has any time at the end of the day to watch any of his 80’s VHS troma movies. On a number of occasions his mother has snuck into his bedroom in the basement in an attempt to febreze his beloved battlejacket, but has ultimately failed as it seems he never removes the vile vest.
Stuck without a job, a futon covered in beer cans, a Metallica with short hair, a boom box that eats cassettes and a shower that hasn’t felt his presence in months, the Neo Thrasher seems to be at his lowest. Fortunately there is a kegger behind the abandoned gas station this Friday.

I actually like a heavy helping of punk in my thrash (which is funny in and of itself since you only got thrash by dumping heavy helpings of punk on NWOBHM bands) - the whole crossover thing was huge for me - but from where I stand, what most of these pizza bands are doing is less "punk influence" and more "not playing so good".

personally i tend to dig the new bands that are mixing thrash with other genres rather than the straight up "thrash revival" type bands...unless it's done really well (see: razormaze).
i like humor in my metal so i like some of the less "evil" bands... most of the newer thrash bands (especially the evil/serious ones) just seem like a weak imitation of past greats. attn: warbringer... you are not demolition hammer, quit trying. but it's definitely become a trend that has spawned many shit bands (pizza thrash or not)...but then again so does any musical movement/genre so it's not surprising.

"Thrash" to me has always been the same as the word "punk". It's a feeling, a vibe, an overall THING that really is hard to nail down, less so, I think, than grind or death metal or what-have-you.
Watchmaker was one of the thrashiest bands that ever lived, but they sounded nothing like __________ or ___________ from your favorite 2-year-span of "thrash".
That said, I am not a fan of a lot of the "pizza thrash" or "party thrash" or whatever, mostly because they do seem very hipster/scenester-ish, in that they all gotta have the right retro clothing and be seen in the right faded Maiden t-shirts when they go to/play shows for their equally "metal-chic" friends, who, as Jawshy said, are probably REALLY there for the free keg beer, on top of scoring scene points.
Spend 'em wisely, kids.
BUT, fuck it all, 'cause there's almost as much posturing in every other little genre/scene/show/clique/venue/life.
