Sacred Worlds is an edited version of Sacred with new orchestral intro and outro. Tanelorn is an old style song which seems to be taken from Somewhere Far Beyond, very fast rhythm thrashy guitar and raspy voice. Road of No Release is introduced by piano and clean voice, the song grows until the very melodic chorus with huge choirs Ride into Obsession has very fast rhythms and a powerful chorus Curse My Name is the first ballad of the album, with a medieval mood and several instruments like flutes Valkyries is one of the less immediate songs of Blind Guardian with many time changes more akin to prog rock Control the Divine has rich dynamics like many songs of A Night at The Opera War of Thrones is the second ballad on the album with a happy refrain and pretty sad verses A Voice in The Dark is, like Tanelorn, a return to band's earlier style, with very fast and heavy guitar and a melodic chorus, making this the obvious choice for the single Wheel of Time starts with an orchestral, oriental mood. It is reminiscent of "And Then There Was Silence", with many time changes and two different choruses sung together towards the end of the song. In reality, it came from Set in Egypt an th basics of good vs evil came from Zoroastrianism in modern day Iran. So it's beyond that, but evolved into what what we know of it today. Why are devils represented as hooved goats? Look no further than Pan in Greek mythology. In essence Satan is a culmination of ancient beliefs; Christianity adopted it and rode with it. |

That's cool since I don't think that's the norm in metal. It has been argued that Christianity's dualist nature is a direct descendant of zoroastrian ideology being studied by Jewish scholars like the much fabled Jesus. Christianity is certainly an evolution of the near east/mid east theologies which preexisted it. Regardless I do concur that metal about mainstream religion is kind of silly, but I don't tend to find much enjoyment in spiritual music save for some of the haunting gospel roots of blues and jazz, and some of the opulent creations of Baroque and Classical composers. It's just a topic that doesn't generally click with my own interests, but I could still care less about others writing about such themes, I'm just not likely to listen, which I think may be your point anyway... |

When A night at the opera came out it took me a while to get into it because the cd was so crazy over the top with production and orchestration, long arrangements. Eventually I got over it and loved it. The latest cd for me I enjoyed but took a bit of a downhill slide. I'd give it about a 5 or 6 compared to Nightfall/Imaginations/Somewhere which are all 10's. |
