Anyone want to shed some light on this topic for me? I've heard from numerous people that the old 90's 2 channel heads have a better tone that the newer ones.

Reasons?

Thanks!

Mesa Quad pre-amp, Mark IV, Mark V > any Rectifier ever. Substantiated fact arrived at through extensive scientific research.

id chip in with some real advice but i pretty much just hate them in general. i guess they sound heavy or whatever but i cant dial in the perfect sound no matter how hard i try.. the older 2 channels are definitely better though

I have the 2 channel one and bought it for this exact reason. When I was looking everyone told me they have better tone than the three and when I tried it I definitely thought so too, so I ended up buying it. I tried two or three different 3-channel Mesa's and they just sounded weak in comparison to what I bought. No balls on the 2nd or 3rd channels although the clean was pretty similar.

However, now that I don't really play heavy music I would kill for a Marshall. What price range you looking in by chance?

@LPCustom - well i know the old 2 channels can get pricey, so im not too worried about cash right now. I know what im getting involved in haha. But what sounds so much different? Just a more natural raw tone vs the new ones?
