FIMs, this was a general complaint- or rather, an analysis at how bad these crowds are now. I figured most would somewhat agree, but the fact remain that this nonsense is getting worse ad worse as each year passes. This reminds me of a show that happened in Vermont a few weeks ago. Apparently Dr. Acula offended some kids at a show, and as a result they stood in the center of the mosh pit with their arms folded. Dr. Acula called the crowd a bunch of "straightedge faggots" and gathered 20 random people to jump the kids after the show. Though I guess that's expected from fucking bro-core douchebag music.

I would somewhat disgree. We were all kids at one point, yes. But a.) metal is different now
b.) there are so many shitty bands (even more than 10-15 years ago)
c.) their generation is quite sad. think of how much tge world has changed in 10 years.
In short, like you said, these kids are a product of shallow generation. There is nothing we can do.
It is a good example of how metal has changed. Want to know? Look at the crowds. I go to shows for music only, and it isn't the same anymore.

I'm pretty sure my first metal show at the Palladium was when I was around 16 and I gotta say that I LIKE the fact that the community has grown in popularity and continues to attract big acts to the stage. But at the same time, all these goddamn sheep & peacocks cheapen the experience. They gain a little exposure to some Metallica /Children of Bodom /Cannibal Corpse and a couple other well known bands and then start calling themselves metalheads and start trying to present an easily recognizable image to others in the community. Some of them go on to actually learn what its all about but the majority just take up floor space at shows and enable mediocre bands to gain success over great bands. We all had to start somewhere, its just annoying when they try to put on a front like they're so grim & baddass just to gain acceptance within a genere that never really aimed to be accepted in the first place. Like it for what it is, not just to make a fashion statement.

I'm not the least bit stuck up. I was into NFG while I was in high skool. My 2nd show ever was TGUK at the palladium. I have rarely ever exchanged words with a stuck up douchebag at a metal show. I like the bands I like on a personal level and just have an overall bad attitude towards product vs. art. Metal fans suck is just a wrong statement.

Because metal is something I hold dearly and the younger fans (again, NO problem here) are changing, just as metal is. It is a subculture that is losing its roots and respect. The fact remains that the palladium crowds are full of nitwits; a number that is increasing daily. I don't write or listen to music for anyone else but myself, but as valkyriescreams mentioned, these shows are becoming more of joke, as reflected in the crowd. I guess I will bite my tongue and ignore it.
No one one seems to talk about it, this thread was made for discussion on the changes within the metal fanbase. It's obvious it's not like it was. I don't really care, as long as my favorite type of music isn't destroyed by the sheep.

Aril, what about the general fanbase of the more occult/extreme bands that we enjoy. I feel like it's a metal contest nearly every show I go to, but I'm not quick to judge. I admit, for a few years I held a more "kvlt" stance on black and death metal. I don't really care about anything anymore; I'm extremely open minded with music but a little close minded with the direction metal is going in. As with anything, individualism is what makes people. And yes, lately it really only matters how many patches you have on your jean vest, or how many occult books one has read to the point they consider themselves a real occultist. I think there are too many insecure metalheads- too afraid to admit their guilty pleasures out of fear of losing faux credibility within the metal community. The fact that you mentioned you liked NF. Is a good thing because it shows you're not afraid to mention it.
Most blackmetal fans are always hiding something and can't be true to themselves.
Nothing is worse than people who haven't found their identity yet. I give grant and martins shit but they are in the process of doing so. Many metal/ heavy music people just need to stop being insecure. My 2 cents.
