ok back to topic here, every message is ignored. i am looking for a band that isn't speed crazy, i dont mind speed sometimes but not all the time. i would like for the music to be melodic and progressive. i am not a drummer who does blast beats, because to me doing 16ths with your feet and 8ths on your hands takes no skill other then endurance. i dont practice blast beats therefore yes i cannot do them, but thats ok..... because most of you probably cant play jazz.... not because you can't but because you dont want to. i want a band that is more old school metal, aka late 90s stuff. the metal i here now i really think sucks. all the bands i listed is literally the only metal bands i listen to because everything else i have heard i do not like. you may like it, but i dont. i go to berklee but not for drumming because i am learning composition. i do however take electives on drumming. just because i know theory doesn't make me better then anyone, just more informed on music. yes dream theater is about the only prog metal band i listen to because what i have heard i do not like. im very picky on what music i do like, most music to me sucks.
other influences i didn't list,
rachmaninoff, debussy, benny goodman, mama's and the papa's, jefferson airplane, the doors, the cyrkle, the drifters, a little bit of led zepplin, depeche mode, the smiths, the cranberries.... and lots of other specific songs from random bands.......
but i didn't list these because they dont really matter when im trying to join a metal band.
for everyone who leaves a stupid ass comment, i will ignore it the moment i realize its not important.

Not to sound like an elitist scumbag, but someone's gotta say it:
1.) Old school metal is not in the late 90s.
2.) Bragging about your elite theory experience in addition to saying you've written orchestras, yet not posting any examples of any music you've ever done is moronic. I'm at least somewhat interested in hearing your orchestral compositions.
3.) It's okay to have an open mind about music, especially if you want to better your compositional skills. You're really making yourself sound very unprofessional and quite frankly, moronic.
4.) If you're ignoring this, why are you reading it?
5.) It's okay if speed and aggression aren't your thing - but don't come to an extreme metal board calling people out. You'll only get verbally assaulted.
6.) Nice influences, but none are still prog.
7.) Limiting your brain to certain types of music will only affect your composition in the long run. (see 3)
8.) It's spelled Led Zeppelin.
9.) It does not make sense that you're claiming to be a prog drummer but only limit yourself to DT.
10.) Think about taking a few electives on the English language.
I sincerely wish you good luck at Berklee; hopefully one day you won't have your head in your ass.

see the thing is, i was just putting my information on here and everyone starts talking shit. why? im trying to find a band, and everyone starts telling me im retarded for knowing music theory, i wasn't flaunting it, i was merely stating i have theory knowledge. i dont care about what people call metal today, it all sucks. pantera and burn my eyes from machine head, fear factorys demanufacture, thats what i call metal.... not fuckin avenged sevenfold.
as for material, i was in a band for 6 yrs, everyone was perfectionist but me and the bassist so we hardly played anywhere or recorded. all the recordings i did have were stolen on my last laptop, and nobody in the band gave a shit to keep our stuff.
as for my own personally written shit, i'm not done writing anything becaus berklee is kicking my ass and i dont have time to do anything on my own. and people at berklee are all stuck up and hardly any metal heads there, and the ones there are, are already in bands. and i dont limit myself to things, i listen to shit loads of music, but what i "like" is only a few certain things.
and yes im sry to say the only prog band i like is dream theater, i want to play stuff like that on drums.... therefore im a prog drummer. other prog bands i have heard i do not like.
so please again if you want to tell me about a band thats looking for a drummer like me, then comment.... if not then dont fuckin comment.

Progdrummerguy: I'm pretty much the guy you'd be here looking for. I'm a prog nut, and could use a good number. However, with your attitude here I wouldn't touch you with ouchdrummer's 10 foot pole. Or I would. It depends which you'd consider enjoyable.
As for theory, it's there so YOU can figure out how to play the music I write. Until you start bringing something to the table musically, stop pretending you're something beyond a drummer. Post some clips, some songs, or simply say "hey, I'm looking for a band". Making demands and assumptions right off the bat is exactly HOW you got off on the wrong foot here.

Hey, what's up clan mates. My name is Bobby, and I'm 26. I started playing COD 4 on a roommates ps3, then onto WAW, but we moved out after a year of school.... now i got a ps3 finally. So I'm not old school, but not a newb either. I go to Berklee College of Music in Boston for composition..... aka writing orchestra music, and I play prog. metal drums.... like Dream Theater. Since I'm in school I don't play during the week, only weekends. But hopefully I'll be seeing you guys on the weekends more and playing as a team.

like it sais in the name, im a prog metal drummer.... aka no blast beats. i like technical music like dream theater. but i like to mix it with all sorts of metal.
bands that i like and are influenced by:
dream theater, liquid tension experiment, pantera, fear factory, machine head, slipknot (first cd), mudvayne(first cd), korn(first cd), slayer, sepultura, children of bodem, opeth, lamb of god, soilwork, megadeth, "old" metallica, chimaira, between the buried and me, pissing razors primus, maybe even limp bizkit (def. first cd, and none other) ...
not in that order.
i dont care to go crazy fast, stuff like fear factory, or slayer is about as fast as i like to go. and i really dont do blast beats, they sound stupid to me.
i dont mind playing all sorts of stuff mixed in with the metal, like liquid tension experiment.
