The Star Rover by Jack London. written in 1915. loved the style of writing, really interesting concept. the movie "The Jacket" was based on this book but is obviously a lot gayer. its actually as different as "I Am Legend" is from it's movie counterpart. it sounds really gay... but the Magic The Gathering: Onslaught cycle trilogy by Robert J King is an incredible read. if you can find those 3 books, make sure you get them and read them. it starts off a little awkwardly. by that i mean that the writing is a little clunky and i really seemed to not give a shit about the main characters at all. but i soon start to get into everything. i had way too much fun reading them. it's a fantasy story obviously... nerdy, but awesome. |

They actually just put up a plaque outside on the side of the building commemorating him and the novel a few months ago I've actually only just begun reading Lieber, going through all the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser stuff...which I can't believe is so unknown...far exceeds Lord of The Rings. They guy is both funny, witty, dark, and detailed with his stories, I don't think a better duo of heroes exist than Fafhrd and Gray Mouser. As soon as I get done with that series I will move onto his other works. |

I haven't checked out his sword and sorcery work but yeah, he was a huge pioneer in that kinda stuff so it definitely must be worth a read. Where should I start with that? A manuscript of another supernatural horror type novel he did in the late 50s was published a few years back but its something like 30 bucks, kinda steep. He contributed a short piece to Ellison's Dangerous Visions that is very good and worth the price of the book (about ~10 bucks on abe) but everything in both of the Dangerous Visions collections should be required reading anyway. I'd like to get the collection of literary essays he did on Lovecraft but that thing is through the roof pricewise |
