Mangini and Mike Tennenbaum pass on Jay Cutler and draft Kellen Clemens (career 59.97 rating) and Brad Smith (4 career completions on 7 career passing attempts) in the 2006 draft. 8. In an effort to rectify the Kellen Clemens bust and coax Brett Favre out of retirement, Mangini vows to give his soon to be born son "Brett" as a middle name in the quarterback's honor. Mangini and Tennenbaum together pass on Jerod Mayo (Defensive Rookie of the Year and 2010 NFL tackle king) to draft potentially the greatest bust in Jets history in Vernon Gholston. 6. The Favre train sizzles out in the later half of the 2008 season. The Jets go 9-7, falling to third place in the division behind the Matt Cassell lead Patriots, and the Miami Dolphins lead by the Mangini-jettisoned Chad Pennington. Mangini uses his final moments in New York to scapegoat Favre for the team's failure. 5. Mangini spends his first moments in his Cleveland tearing down a mural of great Browns players, effectively pissing off the entire state of Ohio. 4. Mangini makes his 2009 Browns rookies take a 16 hour bus ride from Cleveland to Mangini's football camp in Connecticut. An unnamed rookie complains to the players union calling it an act of "sophisticated hazing." The players union complains to the league who in turn forces Mangini to cancel his flight and take the 16 hour bus trip home. 3. Mangini loses 2 rookies for the season to serious knee injuries sustained while essentially forcing players to fight in the mud after practices. 2. Mangini is held responsible for Josh Cribb's concussion after being told to run a hook and lateral play in the final seconds of an unwinable regular season game. 1. Spygate blows over and Mangini goes down in history as a rat who sold out his mentor and the league for nothing. |
