They just have a thing about "keep boston out of providence", which has been going on forever (anal cunt vs. drop dead for example) so unless you are on a label and touring, you most likely are not playing there. I'm pretty sure the policy staes that they have to let every band from RI play there at least once, not that it's only RI bands. Something to do with the grants that they get from the state. Same reason you can't play cover songs there. Politics aside there are usually some awesome shows at as220. |

I do frequent the providence message board (lotsofnoise.com) and I was just telling it as I understand it. They get state grants that allow them to exist on the level that they do so they have to let all RI bands play. The keep boston out of providence attitude is just the way it has been for a while I guess. It's not just cause of AC and DD but other incidents. More recently Robin vs. AS220.....the thread for that is quite hilarious btw...... for whatever it's worth the entertainment director or whoever is stepping down and a new person is taking their place. They handle the sound and booking and stuff. Maybe the new person will be more flexible? Who really cares? Place is a fucking hipster magnet anyways. More Olneyville shows FTW. |
