It's a good statistical cut by the Olympic analyzers. Average along 10 axes, boxing is first and fishing is last. note that ski jumping is 28th in average difficulty but has a 9/10 nerve rating, so the rank isn't everything. i would never fucking ski jump. cheers.

Totally.

For instance, I'm not saying fishing shouldn't be at the bottom of the list, but it got a 2.88 for ANALYTIC APTITUDE, defined as the ability to evaluate and react appropriately to strategic situations. So in competitive angling, you don't analyze a body of water, time of year, weather conditions, activity of fish as related to breeding/spawning/actively feeding, as relates to lure, presentation, terminal tackle, etc?

Plenty of other discrepancies on this list as well, this one just jumped out since it was at the bottom and I'm an angling nerd.

Yea, there are a bunch of missing areas which would ultimately affect the degree of difficulty.

ESPN has always been known to make bullshit formulas - John Hollinger's rating system with basketball is an example.

Shoulda been makred as "sports."

Interesting grid, though. The hand-eye coordination in baseball is accurate.

good point largefreak, i figured fishing shouldn't be called a sport unless it's competitive fishing and in that case it's probably insanely difficult.

LOL @ cheerleading being considered a sport. Get off the field and into a gymnastics gym if you want to impress me with that shit.

This is also bullshit when one takes into consideration the different positions in sports. You're telling me that a nose tackle in football requires the same agility as a running back? That a 2nd basemen requires the same arm strength as a pitcher?

GIVE ME A BREAK ESPN.

Anyone can have a good outing once in awhile, but to consistently catch fish in a competitive environment (whether you're a tournament bass guy or rich enough to on the billfish circuit), it's not at all easy.

ITT: people putting far too much thought into something that is meant to be a BROAD generalization.

yeah the positioning is important. hand-eye for a catcher i would say is equal to a goalkeeper, where both positions need twitch reflexes and instinct, and that's not nearly as important for outfield players.

I didn't say it was easy. I just don't consider it a sport.

I would also add that generally speaking, the folks at ESPN might know a little more about these things than the average sports fan, so despite what you might think at face value about this list, Im pretty sure they put a little more thought into it than ITT.

this is the panel that did it.

and they have as much value as statistics can in sports. it matters in some sports more than others.

Wasting hours of your weekends running alone in a straight line, looking sweaty and ugly in public is peak self-hatred
