I'm not sure who actually likes Cave In here, but I heard the demo that got them dropped by MCA and they're doing heavy material again! I'm so happy, but am curious as to what label they will be going to for the next album. My guesses are back to Hydrahead or Deathwish.

What do mean by heavy though? Like Beyond Hypothermia? Or heavy by their Indie rock standards?

I was a big fan of their heavier material. Until your heart stops was a favorite of mine. But then I didn't really get into their rock albums. I heard they were playing old material at shows again, but I didn't know they were planning to record a new heavy album. How'd you get to hear the demo?

It's more like Until Your Heart stops.
It was recorded at my teacher's studio and I got to hear a bit of it from him.

as i said, MCA dropped them. antenna didn't sell enough and they aren't interested in releasing cave in's new material.

the lyrics on antenna (and i'm assuming the preceding albums) were never "emo". but there are good indie rock bands if people opened up their horizons. I happen to like cave in's indie rock stuff, not as much as their old material but it's good. I also find Minus the Bear and one Cursive album to have some awesome guitar playing. unfortunately because they don't growl people won't listen and I don't agree with the attitudes of their fan base (the whole i act better than you because I can afford to buy my wardrobe from the diesel stores).

Yeah, their indie stuff was really good, I just prefer the older stuff.

I remember when Dave Scrod was in Swivel and they had that song Tears or some shit and they opened for Death and um Gorefest back 94 or something... I'd give anything to go back in time to that show when good ol' Chuck was still alive... Anyways Scrod was incredible back then... I still got the demo somewhere... That's the thing with all ya'll hardcore fags... Ya don't hold on to anything... Earth Crisis is like cookie dough... Venom is eternal!!!

I forget if swivel became state of alert or the other way around.
I guess they had a reunion show a few years ago.

Actually, it was Alert (State of Alert was Henry Rollins' pre-Black Flag band from D.C.) that later became Swivel...and props to coldnorthernvengeance for the kind words. That show...and that whole era...was a blast.

whoa, this thread came out of nowhere.

Tonight's Isis show was a nice little hydrahead family reunion though. Great performance too, and while more old stuff would have been nice it was cool to hear them play just about the whole new album.

Caleb [bass-in Cave-In], was the singer in my old band [Strike 3]. He could easily front the new 'heavier' side of Cave-In; he sings from his ball bag! When we use to record, the sound techs were always impressed that he was actually making those 'vocals'. He could hack up odd white chunks as well, but it didn't seem to bother him.

Hopefully, the new shit will NOT be like Strike 3 if this is the case, or NOT even like old Cave-In. That's shit already been done, still being done, and beaten to fuckin death!!! (Strike 3 quote, 'It's time for a change!') Heavy Music, in general, has become a retarded rehashed version of old shit that everyone has already done. The 'metal-scene' needs a metal version of Nirvana to come along and knock the spiked bracelets off everyone. Still stay it's more about simplification than complication.

In response to the reverend: Ahhh..."the broken leg"! and the fractured wrist, broken collarbone, and broken ribs. That's what happens when your compact car collides with an 18-wheeler on the highway, kids!

In response to the latest fiber of this thread: I'd like to see Cave-in go back to doing heavier material as well, but not like the old stuff. That stuff was old even when we were doing it. Caleb has always seemed to dislike me for whatever reason but since my departure from the band, I have always felt that he should be doing vocals and not Steve, as phony British accents are a little played out.

i do, actually. i've got all the swivel masters, the older versions of the cave in stuff that ended up on "until your heart stops" (demo versions with different lyrics/vocals), and all the unreleased buzzov-en stuff that hydrahead was supposed to put out. if you don't want to post your address here, e-mail me at scrodzilla@yahoo.com and give me your info and i'll send you some stuff.
