Their tone and their look, I can see that, but I feel like the songwriting always outweighs that with any band and for true rock and roll from GNR you'd have to go back to songs from Live Like a Suicide or maybe Dust N'Bones or Shotgun Blues from the Illusions, but that's pretty much it from the golden era of GNR original albums where it's really plain old rock and roll. The metal influence on the music writing on Appetite is defining, I think, and the guys from GNR made a point of associating themselves as a metal band when they came out, calling Metallica and Megadeth their favorite bands in magazine interviews at the time and viewing them as their peers. I tend to believe the broader definition of metal does it more justice and rings more true, and Slash is the guy who inspired me to be a musician these last twenty years, so since I'm pretty committed on these points we might have to agree to disagree on this one, my friend. :CHEERS: |
