Think DarkThrone - They started death metal, went black metal (and helped define it), later had a heavy punk influence, and most recently, some early traditional thrash in their output. Likewise, depending on what you're listening to, SABBAT has had a few different sounds. I'm a big fan of the early stuff like the Bloody Countess demo era, which is chiefly speed metal by slants. I also like the Fetishism LP a lot, which has a dirtier thrash approach but still riff-oriented. Overall, I like the vast majority (not all) of what they've done, but I also gravitate to grittier shit. Some of their recordings are decidedly lo-fi, despite being in pro-ish studios. If you like harsh, check em out. If you like glossy pussy Euro noodling shit, avoid. |
