Boston is having issues with DIY shows, which caused literally every regular venue around to usually be booked already and either last minute shows/tours or promoters with shows who don't have an in to scramble for a place. It might just be a blessing in disguise. Less shows means greater attendance for the good shows. It also weeds out the overnight touring bands and local openers who feel entitled to play 20 shows a month until they break up a few months later or everyone burns out of them they no longer play many shows at all. I'd rather see a dozen GOOD shows a month happening instead of 30+ mediocre shows because everyones entitled to play an instrument. |
