Trophy hunting is pretty stupid, but I see literally nothing else wrong with this. From what I can understand, she wasn't doing anything illegal. They also regulate the shit out of Safaris, so there's probably no real ecological argument here either.

Could it be that people are just getting butthurt over a pretty animal dying?

^Correct. If it was a hyena nobody would care. I eat everything I shoot, so I have no desire to ever shoot a lion, but this woman did nothing wrong. She was on a legal hunt that probably cost a shot load of money. If you want to get upset about something, get upset about all the poaching going on in Africa -- elephants and rhinos for ivory.

For the record, the animals shot during trophy hunts go to the local tribes as food. They use the whole animal, to include the fur. That is the penance for being allowed to hunt their lands. So, you PETA faggots can rest assured that the animal is being used in it's entirety.

Looking at the comments made by the anti-hunters on that page make me sick. Without hunting, human beings would not even be alive today. This world is going down the shitter quick due to peoples nonsense. Hunting has been replaced by twitter, the internet, video games, and television. Now, who's really sick here? People today fucking enrage me.

ill agree with you on those comments, video games, twitter and face book on a large commerical scale is sad and maddening, and if its true that the meat fat and bones get used by local tribes then hell i dont see much wrong. Is she a bad ass for shooting a lion with a high powered rifle on a tripod while she probly had a small army backing her up if she missed, meh not really.

Good point. Or, all the destruction of local ecosystems happening in this country as we expand suburbs and cities. When the forest is gone, so are the animals.

It doesn't matter how she killed it, the fact of the matter is that it's a legal hunt. Aside from man, I don't see that lions have any natural predators. Aside from all of this, hunting is a wonderful sport that bonds families, feeds people, and is a hell of a lot healthier than sitting in front of an electronic device all day. If we all still hunted in order to live, our population would certainly be lower, and there would be less impact on the ecosystem. Unfortunately, the grocery store killed the strong men that we once were, forcing us to be the lazy, entitled race that we have become.

My first reaction to seeing the photo was that the lion looked like my cat Horace when he's sleeping and it made me want to eat this woman's children. I have no argument against the legality of this hunt. But the truth is that nothing is gained by this lion being dead, and I can't imagine there being any real skill involved in shooting a (probably) stationary target from a long distance with a high powered rifle (after all, a girl did it). Nothing is gained and even less is proven.

Yea but if we don't kill animals for no reason then our species becomes lazy and buys food at a grocery store...wait...I think that's what Hoser said.

I see both sides of the argument. I don't condone the hunting of a lion, however if the carcass is used to help local tribes, then it's not harming anyone. I don't think that lions are even on the endangered list. I'm all for deer and other game hunting here though, it is crucial for regulating an ecosystem. Deer are essentially parasites.

there is no honror in killing a beast that could kill you. With the help of moderen technology like a high powere rifle on a tripod. hunt it like a man with a spear or bow and arrow and stalk it for days/weeks not chase it around in a cushy jeep with a gps tracker. Nothing wrong with hunting just do it like people use to. Peta and the alf can suck a dick but this bitch should have caught Grid from a green monkey.

As much as I'm all for the Hoseman's right to be... him. I'm gonna need a little more proof than Hoser's "for the record" that this lion went to any good use before I consider it for "the record."

IMO, what irks people about this is the projected sense of accomplishment from this lady. She squeezed the trigger on an expensive gun from a well safe distance and acted like she did something noteworthy. Literally, anyone with the same resources could have done that.

legal hunt. probably 100% of animal used (whatever dead means dead to me). Plus she had to pay a shit ton of fees that will go to conservation. I don't see the issue.

good luck trying to change cultural pride regarding hunting as well. Because you know all cultures are rational, and changing a culture isn't insanely hard to do... I don't get it myself but i'm also from Boston, have no hunting experience, and have limited experience with guns.

*** i'd have to find the source again but the net gain of hunting is beneficial to hunted species. Maybe a oxymoron on the surface, but when looking at the whole picture the protection that hunting pays for helps more than it hurts.

[Nov 20,2013 9:42am - Hoser ""]
Mike, when it comes to hunting, I wouldn't bullshit you. I've done it my whole life, from the time that I could even carry a bow, rifle, or shotgun. My dad's brother goes on a ton of trophy hunts. The cost far outweighs the reward of a mere "trophy". It's the experience that far outweighs any cost. To get into the woods, or the outback, or the desert....that's the experience. To get out there and walk miles, or trek for miles in a vehicle or on a quad or whatever...just to get one look at the animal in it's own environment. To get that close....

All of the animals that he has taken went as gifts to the local tribesmen, who cleaned it, cut up the meat, and dried the hides for multiple uses. The tribesmen in turn gave them a feast and provided the guide so that they too could benefit from the hunt. The problem with using spears and all of that other shit it is downright dangerous for the tribesmen, and not worth the risk to their people. Dangerous game hunting didn't flourish until the Dutch colonized Africa around the time of King Leupold. There's a great book out the called "King Leupold's Ghost". It's mostly about how the shithead enslaved a million Africans and murdered the rest, but there is a lot in there regarding hunting dangerous game.

Hunters do more for conservation than everyone else put together....no questions asked. It's a tradition that we want to continue, and to make sure that it does, we put our money and most of our time into it. That means paying licensing fees that go right back into conservation. Every piece of hunting gear that it purchased also has a percentage of the purchase price that goes toward conservation. Now, are hunters really the big bad morons that the press and liberals make us out to be? Or are we the true heroes to the animals that we hunt and the ecosystem that we protect?

Hoser is correct. In addition to the conservation funds generated by licenses and duck stamps, most hunters also belong to conservation groups. Here's two that I belong to:

http://www.ducks.org/

http://www.ruffedgrousesociety.org/

Both of these organizations do more with conserving wetlands and woodlands than any anti-org has ever done. Plus both DU and RGS have gun raffles at their events, which is cool.

DU is definitely worth joining -- it's short money to join, and the events are great. Some guys just got the Concord, NH Chapter going again earlier this year. We had a small event, but most everyone knew each other and it was a good time.

From the Maroi Conservancy that set up the hunt: "It is a fact, that due to the hunting industry and money generated out of this industry, there are more animals in South Africa than 100 years ago."

I do quite a bit of that too. Not necessarily more thrilling, just a tad different. Most animals that I have ever shot with a gun were well within bow range.
