Prog/Black/Trad Metal Titans CORMORANT Invokes "The Pythia" Through Noisey Track Debut

Vice's music portal Noisey has just posted a brand-new track from CORMORANT's upcoming third opus. The Bay Area extreme metal creatives are preparing for the release of 'Earth Diver' on April 8, 2014, and are pulling out all the stops. Preorders for the album will go live on March 25th, 2014 - get ready!

Noisey describes the eclectic album in broad terms: "The self-released LP from the Bay-Area team, which delves down the paths of black metal, traditional and progressive, switches between clean and black metal vocals across the eight tracks." Fifth song "The Pythia" is now streaming courtesy of said media vortex - listen in at this location.

'Earth Diver' is the follow-up to 2011’s critically acclaimed Dwellings, and features mind-boggling cover art from accomplished artist Sam Ford of Wizard Rifle (whose creations can be seen gracing works by Black Cobra, Witch Mountain, Occultation, Atriarch).

The band's third LP continues to explore the black metal and doom influences found on Dwellings and will also mark the first appearance of new bassist/vocalist Marcus Luscombe (Vengince, ex-Cloakwheel). Recording, mixing and mastering were once again be handled by Justin Weis (Agalloch, Slough Feg, Hammers of Misfortune) and the band will once more release the record on their own terms.

Earth Diver Track Listing

1. Eris
2. Daughter of Void
3. Sold as a Crow
4. Waking Sleep
5. The Pythia
6. Broken Circle
7. Mark the Trail
8. A Sovereign Act

Cormorant's last release, their triumphant sophomore LP Dwellings, was cited by National Public Radio as "far and away the best metal record of 2011." The record crashed album of the year lists from the likes of Yahoo Music, About.com, No Clean Singing, The Needle Drop, and Invisible Oranges, with MetalReview.com describing it thusly: "Evocative, literate, soaring, thoughtful, passionate, full of both weight and light, and still one hell of a lot of fun, Dwellings is an absolute triumph for independent music, and for heavy metal as a whole."

For the history buffs, Cormorant's entire discography (including Dwellings) is currently streaming on their Bandcamp page:

anything that npr endorses is an auto buy for me, "far and away the best metal record of 2011." what an understatement
