RPM 2014- first year, with hopefully many more to come. Crowd-funded, pay what you want show. No money charged at the door. We've spent months working to build two stages and to clear a huge viewing area, as well as digging up stumps and burning brush and grading and leveling, etc to provide parking and camping spaces. All this to bring non-stop music with no changeover time for 2 days straight. BYOB, Camping, Bonfires, Music, Food, etc. Info can be found at the following links:

Who the fuck are any of these bands?

Well, Planetoid's mission is to enslave the human race with their transmissions of face-melting rock. Sounds legit.

they're pretty much Clutch from outer space. ...well, boston.

Sounds like a good idea, except that Tim Riley and a whole bunch of no care bands are involved.

I predict great success for all bands involved (where "great success" equals "something comparable to but not exactly appearing on whatever the nowadays equivalent of Farmclub is").

I remember when I had to fly to Europe in order to go to something like this. I'll most likely hit this up.

I really don't think it's just old age talking here when I say I'd way rather just go camping, eat off my Foreman grill at home, or do any of the non-music activities here without having to sit through about 100 bands I've never heard of or are completely awful.

Will the future independent music venue book these same type of garbage bands no one has ever heard of or gives a shit about?

Legit Answer: the bands on the bill are all very well known and enjoyed here in the area that we are putting on the show. I'd say the same thing if you guys booked a fest featuring a bunch of Eastern MA bands I've never heard of. But there are 10 Eastern MA bands on the bill and it's a free event. Plus, It's a rock/punk/metal fest. It's not a super underground Death Metal/Black Metal fest. I'd like to see a death metal fest there in the future, but right now, we're focusing on RPM.

Could be a good place to put on Aril's "heathen feztivus" sometime in the future if the venue works out well.

Honestly I don't care anymore. That whole thread was loosely based off of the idea of the old COOS COUNTY FEST they used to have up in Berlin NH

My buddy Nick (guitarist for In Human Form/ ex-Vacant Eyes) is going to be planning an all black metal night show in the backyard of his cabin in Central Vermont this Fall. So there's always that as well. Alx- Barren Oak should play.

And if that happened everyone in eastern Mass with a clue would ask why is this shitty fest even happening? And 50 terrible western mass bands would be begging to get on it.

1) Why build stages vs. renting them?
The amount of trouble it will take to maintain those through winter, muddy/soft ground, warping, etc... can't possibly be worth it.

2) Why are the stages attached?
By placing the stages so close together, you can't sound check while another band is playing. Kind of defeats the purpose of 2 stages.

3) Will this show be run on generators?
If so, do you realize how much gas it would take to run that much gear? Amps, lights, soundboards, etc... You will need SEVERAL large generators and a good knowledge of wattage.

I'm not trying to knock your idea, but there are a lot of obstacles (and $$$) to pull something like this off that i don't see addressed anywhere.

the event is being run by www.pdpprod.com and they have that all taken care of. the house 500 feet away has commercial power that can handle it all. the idea of the 2 stages close together is to ensure no changeover time, giving nonstop music. the backlining will ensure everything is mic'd and leveled properly. any leveling after the fact can be done quickly during the bands first song by PDP. building the stages ensures a long-standing venue that can be there for years to come. the stages will have an overhead roof and back wall so that during winter they can be adequately covered and isolated so they won't be totally fucked through the seasons. i invite you to come up this weekend and drink some beer as we work on it to check it out if you want, man. we'll be up there working and cooking food.

[Jun 18,2014 3:45pm - TimRiley ""]
addendum: the stages are several feet above the ground, mounted by cement filled sonotubes. contractors built them from blueprints, they should be pretty solid. maintenance happens, but i feel they're strong enough to weather the elements while covered.

Project Update #5: RPM Fest 2014 is FUNDED!

Thanks to our new premier sponsor Web Wizard MA, we've just hit our $2000 goal! We're officially funded, and we can't thank everyone enough for your support and assistance in making RPM Fest able to happen.

Having said that, we still have 9 days left, and at the very least we'd like to hit our $2500 stretch goal of renting two 20' x 20' tents for everyone in case of rain or inclement weather. We've also got the $2700 goal of 11"x17" RPM Fest 2014 posters for the first 100 attendees.

Anything above that will go towards next year's RPM Fest - our main goals for next year are to have permanent roofing over the stages, to increase the size of our parking area, and to pull in national acts to headline the fest. If we can approach a headliner and show them a successfully funded Kickstarter to prove that the demand is there, it would go a long way.

Worst fest. You havent even posted an address. Is this like some strange cult compond where a bunch of hippies or skater kids escape their parents and get molested and forced into slavery? There is like maybe 2 decent bands on this garbage fest. Its like a boy scout camping trip with crappy bands no one has ever heard of. I can see it now it will be the bands and their fat ugly girlfriends there and thats it. Have fun circle jerking around the camp fire while litsening to prog metal on a shitty stage. Fuck this trailer trash fest

If this festival is everything that your colorful opinion is, and will attract no attendance, then how did it exceed its funding goal a week before the kickstarter ends, and why was it a kickstarter staff pick on the very day it launched? Never heard so many people bitch about a free-entry show in my life. Unreal.

[Jun 29,2014 3:35pm - Truth  ""]
It reached it's funding goal because some web design company sponsored the fest. Not because of fan support.

lol. Another brainchild of the "No one shows up to our shows except the bands. Wtf.... I know we'll just put ALL THE BANDS on the show and then everyone will come!" school of turd management.

Mike Shea, adjunct professor of RTTP University. Couldn't raise over 2k for a show even if every band he signed on had each member donate ten dollars. *rimshot* shutup_fagget

Not quite there, pal. We enjoy all versions of hard hitting music from rock to death metal. Hence the rpm moniker. We dont tolerate elitism. Every band on this has been hand selected to represent different facets of the rock/punk/metal mindset here west of Worcester.
