Maybe it does not matter to you, but Anne and Joe have been working together as of late to make sure this doesn't happen between the two of us and we think all of you who book shows should be aware of this situation as well. Occasionally it cannot be helped, due to tour schedules or whatever, but for local shows it does indeed. But that still doesn't answer the question as to what all those bands that need shows should do. October alone there's several NC shows and several Armageddon shows, all on Fridays and Saturdays. That said, the rest of us can't just sit at home and wait till there's a weekend free that no one's booked, as that means we'd have to just not play in October, or tour (and we've done so much touring this summer we just want to play locally now). It's not fair to the other bands that need things. For instance, Ymer wants to start playing out. No one's heard them yet, but they want a chance to show people what they sound like. If they have to wait till they get on a Notcommon show or an Armageddon show, they're far back in the cue...there's already a lot of bands trying to get on stuff. That coupled with what if you guys don't like their music, means they might not ever get to play regarding that. I think it's a great move to have bands check the events calender and be fair to you two promoters because you do a lot to help out both touring acts and local bands, and I definitely recognize that. Being courteous and respectful in this industry is not only humane, but it can take you far. But I don't think you're going to eliminate the problem of having double-booked nights, and I don't think it's very fair to ask the smaller bands to stay away from those nights and just chill out till someone tells them it's ok to play. |

Working small, at least clearing it with the people on here, is a good start but to reinforce, local bands need a way of getting their name out their just as much as touring acts do. And that doesn't mean waiting two months till there's a free time slot. |

I've had similar issues up here in VT, but the bottom line is, if you book bands people actually know and want to hear and you promote them as best you can, then you shouldn't have any problems. That's been my formula for success here in VT, ask Pillory about the Mastodon show. We got Mastadon (who everyone knows) then we had Pillory, whom no one had ever heard of up here. The place was sold out, and Pillory I'm sure, gained some new fans for whenver they want to come back up here (with Goratory that is). This fall hopefully. Another success story, I had Skinless up here in the spring and we brought Human Decline up from NYC. No one had heard of them up here but since Skinless was on the bill they too played a sold out show. They were able to get rid of tons of their merch and they had a great time. That's my take on things, everything needs to have some sort of balance, strong headliner, strong locals, then throw some unknowns into the mix. Or do less shows, create more of a demand. If you're playing the same city a few times a month, try not too. Bands and Bookers need to work together on this piece. 6 weeks for locals, 6 months for nationals per venue/city respectively. |

SO that's a done deal unless there's some touring involved, as I only book touring bands then add locals to it. I think the shows we do are pretty strong for the most part, we book a lot of overseas punk hardcore bands, the expenses are a bit more important for these shows and it's more work too, for the most part I want people to come check out the band that's it, I don't want a band from Finland coming over and play in front of 60 people. Sorry but for me this is not a good turnout. We never put the same locals on bills if we can help it. |

We got the Exhumed tour last year, Impaled, Pungent Stench, Rotten Sound/Phobia, and more obscure punk hardcore bands (Forca Macabra, Selfish, and much more). I booked my first show 11 years ago in France (that's where I'm from), never really stopped since then. Yeah, we're really not attacking anyone here. We just want to stress the importance of looking around to figure out what's going on, for the sake of the bands/scene etc. I think it's important to work together. |

And yeah, Anne, I just wanted to point out how much I appreciate the international thing you do. I don't know anyone in America right now that has the track record you have with bringing European music and other non-Domestic music to this country. You've done a bang up job and I think Armageddon fills that niche that most of us don't know how to fill. I mean, it's not hard to really book US touring bands, but international bands have a lot more riding on their tour. |

However, I tend to only book 2-3 shows a month and I think other shows get attributed to me in some way that I have nothing to do with, technically speaking. In October I have 3 shows, one falls on a sunday day, then Fri the 8th and Sat the 9th. Anne has the 1st I think, other then that I don't know. 4 days out of 31 isn't the majority. Bostons dead takes one more, and after that I cannot think of any other shows. Most my shows fall on saturdays, cuz it fits my work schedule better, sometimes I do other dates, for various reasons. Anyways, thats that. I just wanted to say my part and Anne said we should say it together because of our 'axis of metal', if you don't care or hate me then thats fine keep doing your thing.
