| ______________________________ [Jul 12,2010 6:30pm - Lamp ""] If Metalocalypse was intended to be intelligent and well thought out mockery of metal, then the show would only be watched by metalheads and therefore, have a much smaller audience. Most of the humor really has nothing to do with metal at all. You notice how they never talk about metal bands or specifics of technique? And the characters in Dethklok are dumb, of course they are. If they weren't, the show wouldn't be a comedy anymore. The only thing that really separates the characters from the main characters on any other TV show is that negative stereotypes of metal fans are used to create the humor rather than stereotypes of people who are just flat out dumb. So that's how most of the show's fan base ends up being people who know nothing about metal at all or think the epitome of real metal is Job For A Cowboy(doesn't help that the music takes death metal and commercializes it to being pretty much bland nothingness). So my point still stands. The show is funny. The Dethklok tours and albums in real life are nothing but a cash scam and they make me angry. I can understand not liking the humor too, but I think saying it degrades metal as a whole is taking it a bit too far. |

That article makes no mention of the fact that the band has an intelligent manager either... the right person working behind the scenes can make ANYONE seem like an intelligent, charismatic person. All the fans on the show see Dethklok in one way and the people watching the show in real life see Dethklok another way. It's two versions of the same reality. |
